During our post-Christmas trip to Romania to celebrate the new year with friends there and take suitcases fulls of childrens gloves, scarves and hats to a Kiwanis club there for distribution to children in need, we stopped off at Dachau.
This concentration camp was a prison for almost a decade before WW2 began and was not a death camp. Prisoners were taken elsewhere for extermination. We had already visiting Auschwitz were we had been deeply moved by the absolute silence of the place ... Even the birds do not sing there, and people walk around almost on tiptoe, daring to converse only in whispers.
We expected the same at Dachau. Much to our horror this was not the case.
Despite the panels inviting people to respect the site as a memorial to those who suffered and died there, not to take children under 12 into the museum etc, not to eat and drink ... the place has become a place for whole families to go for a walk, texting as they go, coke cans in hand ...
We were so shocked by the attitide of people that we finally said a prayer for those who died there and left immediately.
We couldnt leave though without taking a photo of the famous gate ...
The words were same as at Auschwitz but this gate was the one that was stolen .. Maybe Im just old-fashioned. Anyway a couple of my happier designs for you to ENJOY! Have a good week?
Did you know that the (catholic) church has an 8 page blessing service for organs? Well you do now because Im telling you with photographic proof that this is the case.
My organ was taken to the church in the village and another in the next village to play the midnight mass services (fortunately not both at midnight) this Christmas.
Before an instrument can be used for the liturgy it must be blessed. It was a very nice little service, punctuated with music of course, and followed by drinks and nibbles for friends from the church.
A rare event (the priest had never before blessed an organ) so something to remember. Only problem with the ceremony ... nowhere do they bless the organist. I wish you all a happy New Year with many blessings, whether you are a designer, the staff at CUP, a crafter or an organ.
START THE YEAR ON A HIGH NOTE
The run up to Christmas is a bit like the last weeks of pregnancy ... You find a lot of cupboards that need clearing out. I decided to attack the drinks stock today. 5 opened bottles of port. 4 opened and 2 unopened bottles of vodka.
A huge selection of aperitif winey things that Ive never even heard of, and this is what we have accumulated since moving in ... 6 years ago.
OK OK, we did move 3 houses into 1, but even so ... Please note that I am 100% teetotal, my husband loves his Scotch and I suspect that the photo will be identical another 6 years down the line.
So should you be my part of France, Ill be happy to have you in for drinks, as long as youre adventurous and want to try a long list of unknown drinks !!!!At least my cards are rather better organised and just in case youre getting desperate for a last minute present for a friend ...

Particularly back in the UK you may have heard that the man in the street has been protesting the planned hike in taxes on petrol and diesel as a new year present for us lucky frogs.
Should you need your car for work ( Im 60 kms from my workplace and work part-time, often for only two hours at a time and therefore very representative of the average protester ...) or live in the countryside where you often have to go to another village just to see a doctor then more taxes on what is a lifeline product is just TOO MUCH.
People have spontaneously been donning the yellow visibility vests that are compulsory in our cars and gathering together to show their disapproval of government plans.
As you can see we went with the dog to spend an hour and show our solidarity in the middle of a roundabout ... very noisy as motorists do a lot of horn honking to show their support.
Good atmosphere. The dog also had yellow around her although the photo doesnt really show this. So I need all your support if I am to pay the NEW fuel tax (from 62 to 65% tax on a litre.

And thats him in the photo standing underneath the hams that will be sold in 6 months time, after a long, long process of curing that is brilliantly explained by the owner of this iconic business in the centre of Bayonne.
Its all about time and giving the hams the time necessary to become a really spectacular product. The tour is brilliant marketing too, as it ends with a tasting of his hams, saucissons and patés which evidently leads to a plethora of sales from the shop as people leave.
Whats more, he was a really nice guy, interesting and obviously a lover of his good food.
Right in the centre of the town, its worth a visit should you drop by that way. This week Im offering up my latest upload, designed as a tree present for my sister-in-law as it is both a card and a present all in one.
