Queensland and NSW have been experiencing another rain event this past week and expecting some more rain over the weekend. This weather is usually only brought on from a cyclone but not this one, it is very unusual.
Some places have had over a meter of rain and terrible flooding has occurred. We have had about 140mm the last 7 days, we are up on a hill so dont get flooded and so far the creek hasnt prevented us from getting in or out of town (which is good as I am getting a very painful tooth pulled today).
But of course we feel so sad for everyone that has been impacted. Some homes have now gone under multiple times during and since the 2011 flood. If we had still been in Brisbane that would have been us. All the tanks are full, the dams are full and this is our pond.

Our gum and ironbark trees are flowering away madly at the moment which the bees are loving so there is a lovely hum in the air.
But it isnt the bees making all the noise!
We usually have a few lorikeets around the place but this last week we have been over-run. They have come in from goodness know where to feast on the gum blossoms. The two in my photo were taking a bit of a break so i managed a few pics.

We have had this Geisha Girl for quite a few years now. She doesnt really like the frost, but this past winter was very mild and with the wet spring and summer we have had she has really excelled this year.
The tree that used to shelter her is pretty much dead but we hope that she will still survive the coming winter with not too much damage.
I have seen other Geishas locally which do quite well and do get bigger than this one, some even as trees rather than bushes.

My photo today is of a pair of our local parrots. The male is at least 3rd generation to call ourproperty home and come in for a feed.
Sometimes the babies must be too much for him as he willcome and sit outside (sometimes not even wanting food) and chitter away at me.
I have no ideawhat he is saying of course but one year when he came down quite frequently I think I understoodwhen Mrs brought the new batch of offspring down.
About 6 girls!
I havent seen any offspring nowfor a few years though and had been worried about Mrs as we hadnt seen her in months but she turned upa few weeks ago so we are happy, as they mate for life.

So last week I had a pic of one of our Hares. I have been diligently watching for them of an afternoon. Yesterday i was out with my camera and saw 4 of them together frolicking!
Unfortunately by the time i brought my camera up two had left, the other 2 played statues as i quietly crept forward for a closer shot.
Well for a while anyway but certainly closer than last weeks. My card is Valentine themed and the second one with oozing caramel is pending, with slightly different wording.
Looks good enough to eat lol. Some other yummy Valentine cards coming soon.
