A Frosty Morning

So it really is winter here now on the Southern Downs. This morning i awoke to find this very foggy, frosty day greeting me. People often ask me isnt it cold in Warwick and i usually reply only if the wind is blowing.

Well we have had a bit of that but it just seems that it is very cold this year. I know some places have broken records for July, I dont know about here but i am certainly feeling the cold a lot more this year it seems.

Thanks Nanna

My granddaughter gave me these lovely Gerberas for minding her sister last weekend while Mummy and here went to the movies.

They certainly are very pretty! Sunny Queensland hasnt been living up to its name this week.

Winter has really set in now and some places have even broken their records for the coldest winter day. We have had more rain but thankfully not as much as Sydney and southern NSW who have flooded again! It is still cold today but at least we have sunshine again.

Winter Wattles

Winter has arrived here in Australia. One of my news stories was about the tomatoes still thriving in June (which is late for us).

The cold and frosts have arrived since then (and only a few days after that story) so there is not much colour left out in my garden.

We do have a few trees here which are keeping some colour near the house and our spikey Yuccas stay green all year but it is the Wattles which are keeping it a little bright here as the last of their flowers are displayed.

It is raining again today and it seems Queensland is up for another rain event. Hopefully this time there will be no major flooding. Weve had 2-3 weeks now without rain so at least the ground has dried a little, however the water tables are still full so we will see.

A New Baby

We still have our few pretty face wallabies around the place. I was lucky enough to spot the new bub hanging out of Mums pouch and even luckier to get a pic.

Mum was a bit nervy but the grass was too tempting i guess.

We still feel very privileged to have them around as the we have far more of the large grey kangaroos and usually just the one family of wallabies.

Tomatoes In June!

We have had a week with very little rain for a change. We did get a bit on Sunday and looks like well get some more tonight and over the next few days, but at least we had a little time to dry out and get some lawn mowed.

We can get frosts here anytime after Anzac Day (25 April) but have been lucky so far this year. We did get down to 3 degrees Celsius the other night. We have never had tomatoes still growing at this time of year.

Not that i am getting any ripe ones as being beside our chook pen the chooks get to them from inside and also when i let them out to roam.

The grass is still green but hopefully will stop growing now for the winter though i do enjoy the wallabies and hares on the lawn!

I tell them to eat more grass so i wont have to mow but even they cant keep up.
