ED211 Mandala
Stitching with bads and spacers

Emy has used a dark background to display and promote this beautiful mandala design and I enjoy showing the versatility of all her work in most of the cards I have completed.
For this project, I have chosen white 170gsm satin finished card cut at 13cm square and centred the design before transferring the design and then used a pale delicate shade of aqua in a metallic thread to complete the entire stitching.
I followed the stitch length indicated and began the stitching using single thread in the centre completing the 14point star shapes and the double 8sided scallop shaped circle.
I then completed the small 16 basket shapes with the 10point star shapes which sit above the basket shapes.
This made it easier to see the mandala in perspective and I was then able to complete the stitching by working step by step back to the centre, completing each set of shapes as I worked.
I completed all the stitching before attaching the beads. I have used a gold glitter sequin instead of a spacer in the centre of the work and attached a tiny 2mm tube shaped glass bead in a matching aqua.
In the 8 spaces indicated by the 14 point star shapes in the centre, I have used 2 of these tiny beads together to make the necessary length and in the next 8 spaces indicated I have attached a single tiny glass aqua bead.
In the next 8 larger spaces indicated I have attached a 6mm metallic gold rice bead and for each of the outer 8 points, I have used a gold glitter sequin each with an attached single glass tiny tube bead.
In total, I have used 60 bead and sequin mix in the combination of 9 gold glitter sequins, 8 gold metallic 6mm rice beads and 43 tiny 2mm aqua glass tube shaped beads.
To complete the project, I have defined the edges of this completed work using a metallic pale aqua permanent pen and attached the tri coloured ribbon I have made across the centre back before attaching the white copy paper 12 cm square backing sheet using D.S. red power tape to secure all the stitching and the 13.5cm square gloss metallic gold backing sheet also using the red power tape.
Before wrapping the ribbon tails, around to the back, I have attached an extension of an extra piece of card to the back of the ribbon, so the ribbon appears 75mm wider than the 13.5cm wide gold backing sheet.
I was then able to attach this topper onto the main card front.
I have used a design by Clare Walker, Christmas lace effect, cup814313_7993, with which I have changed the hue to be a darker version of the aqua, I have chosen for the stitching and printed it onto crafty Bob matte copy paper and cut, scored and folded to measure 15cm wide x 29cm high and used it easel fold to then attach the topper to the card front.
I completed the insert using the same Christmas lace print onto copy paper and attached a copy of the completed card and a gold glitter sentiment and a Christmas greeting.
To embellish the card front I have added decorative peel off corners, decorative fine gold lines, a gold sentiment, some glitter gold stars and the matching double coloured bow.
This has made an amazingly beautiful card to add to my Christmas collection. Pamela Horton. The Whispering Platypus.
