A few weeks back I posted a photo as they were starting the lavander harvest earlier than usual due to the hot weather.
This week we also spent a couple of days high up in the mountains of the Drome department where we did a market, selling some of my stock to locals and tourists.
The harvest has now finished and we were lucky enough to come across this distillery.
The lavander comes in by the tractor load ... 130 kgs of the plant is required to obtain 1litre of essential oil, obtained by passing steam through the plants that are shoved, rather unceremoniously into the huge vats you can see behind the tractor.
The smell is heavenly as you can imagine. As I was away, I have not be very busy but here are a couple of my recent uploads. They have no smell, but I hope you ENJOY them.
We had a group of 4 last year, this year they sent us 5 ! They were a great bunch and after dinner in the evening regaled us with music ....
I even restrung one of my sons guitars for them, something I havent done for more than 40 years !
They had the luxury of beds, an evening meal and a great breakfast, and a HOT shower !!!
We were such a success that the Scout powers that be tried to give us 8 more, but that was the night before we were celebrating our 5th anniversary in the house, with a drinks party for 80 !
While my husband was busy saying yes on the phone, I was making frantic NO gestures, until he finally got the message.
Thank heavens, because that same day, he had also invited 6 people to lunch. Oh husbands, dont we just love them!!!
The garden party became an inside party as the heavens poured down on us, but at least the scouts had had a dry evening, leaving us with fabulous souvenirs and this great photo of us all in front of the house.

Its what my hubby always says when something smells nicee ! Yes, Ok his English is rather rudimentary but the Drome department is rather smelling at the moment as due to the hot weather, they are harvesting the lavender early this year.
Its not my favourite smell in a bottle, but in the wilds of nature, just heavenly. You can see the field in the middle of the photo has lost a lot of its purple. A couple of my recent uploads for you that dont smell (odour of sainthood perhaps ?) but for those of you not lucky enough to be on holiday ....

Weve been sweltering here in France with daytime temperatures hitting the 40, even in the mountains/hills where I live and nighttime temperature still around 25C.
FAR too hot for an English flower that starts to wilt at anything over 24C.
Only natural then that we should turn to ice cream to help keep life bearable, but I am not the only lover of the cool dessert !
My hubby snapped this and although its (not a very flattering photo of me, (thats putting it mildly) I admit but I just had to share what I had realised.

Were all used to seeing sign around castles and stately homes inviting you NOT so sit on or touch the furniture and like good like people who know how to read, we look with our eyes only.
This photo was taken during a recent visit to the Château Clos Lucé where Leonardo de Vince died in the early 16th century.
The château is so beautifully furnished it could be in Britain,and visitor look with their eyes. However, it is apparent that either a) cats cannot read or b) the place is so overrun with mice that cats get very special privileges.
This sweet puss was taking a well-deserved rest (after a day spent mousing?) on the velvet counterpane of Leonardos bed.
