Our first trip since COVID was to Pikes Peak State Park, located right on the Iowa/Wisconsin border. It is well maintained and has a beautiful multi-level overlook of the Mississippi River Valley and across the river, Prairie du Chien.

This picture is from the bluff overlooking the confluence of the Mississippi and Wisconsin Rivers. The park is well maintained hiking trails and includes many effigy mounds in park.

We have mystery perennials. This sweet little white flower is called the star if David. Now I sometime wonder if it is true. The flowers close up at night and will bloom fo several days. It propagates from bulbs. This makes it easy to transfer and multiply around the garden.

Sometimes we dont actually know this has happened. Once they bloom the flow dies back.

Virginia bells are a little different the the ones you find in England. Right now our forest areas are covered with these pretty blue flowers. I have a few that come up every year in my perennial garden. The daffodils are fading.

The blue bells have there varied color depending on the stage of growth. They start out as pink buds gradually turning blue as more of the flower opens. Next week Im expecting the Lilly of the Valley.

Walks have been important during our shutdown times. We need to keep moving. Spring is always a great time to discover what is available in our yards. The daffodils are in full bloom. I even have spots that have not bloomed for awhile pushing up buds.

And right behind them will be the bluebells. Watch for them next week.

Yesterday I spent most of my afternoon sitting on the porch listening to birds, watching the robins pull up worms, bunnies chasing each other and the ducks hunting for a nest location.

Then overnight the temperature dropped 15 degrees and the rain came. The only one out is the ducks.

And the flowers in the spring garden are pushing up.
