Ouch!

Last Monday night we got hit by a storm that really was out of the norm. We got a storm warning but honestly thought wed miss the storm as it was coming from the north west.

We get all our bad storms from the south east or south west.

We did however take heed of the warning and covered cars, especially the grand daughters new car. Then again something odd, the hail came down. No rain, just the hail.

It hammered down on the roof so I thought Id go video it from under the patio out the front of the house (the side away from where it was coming from.) and hail fell and blew in onto the patio.

It was about marble size hail. A piece hit me on my thumb right on the knuckle! I couldnt put the video on social media with the words I said, all I can say is it hurt like hell from the force that it came down at.

Next day my thumb was swollen and bruised and sore. Even now (Thursday) it is still quite sore and bruised. My words were a bit more than ouch when it hit me.

The hail filled all the leaf catchers and gutters and as soon as it eased off hubby ventured out to empty the leaf catchers so the rain which had begun could go down the pipes to fill the tanks.

To think we arent even in our traditional storm season yet so will be interesting to see what Mother Nature sends our way this year.

This weeks designs are both wallets, perfect for gift cards or money for Christmas.

New House

So very happy and proud of my daughter. She has just bought a house! Well technically her first house. She first brought a townhouse in a complex which was joined to another. It was quite small so time to look for something bigger.

After searching, doing many inspections, getting Mum (me) to do searches looking at flood/bushfire/heritage overlays, and finding something in her price range she settled for this place down near Manly beach.

Lovely big yard for the dog (once the fence gets done) and extra bedrooms and best of all no fees and rules from a Body Corporate.

She can now add what she wants and paint things to her liking.

She has already arranged for the fencing to be done and is doing some small renovations before moving her furniture in.

One big plus is the beautiful sea breeze which will go through out the back patio on the very hot days.

Very welcome the other day when the temperature was 38 deg C.

That is extreme for October so with a hot summer ahead I think we will be going over often to enjoy that breeze.

Todays designs are pretty floral and lace designs. Check out all the designs in this series.

Can You See Them?

Our resident plovers (masked lapwing) have finally had their babies. Weve been waiting since September to see how many there would be this year but these little bubs have only hatched in the last week.

Doesnt appear they hatched all at once as one is noticeably bigger than the next one with the last one so teeny tiny.

They lay their eggs in a divot in short grass so that they can easily see predators and we really thought maybe something happened as there is a couple of cats that roam, so to finally see them in the back yard we were so happy.

The parents are very protective and will cause quite a ruckus if people approach but the pair round here dont attack us and really dont bother about us.

There is one of the parents that will actually follow me round when Im out on the mower to get grubs and bugs in the cut grass.

They are not however so tolerant of strangers and will swoop although contact is rarely made.

They do have spurs on their wings which arent poisonous but a direct hit is very rare. This week my items are both pretty Christmas designs.

End Of Year

Well the soccer season is over and awards have been handed out. Last news I told about the grand daughter winning their Grand Final and they were awarded their medal and trophy on the day.

However the adults had their award night and my daughter and her partner both won awards. Daughter was Coaches pick for Player of the Year and her partner was awarded The Rocky Award which was for her dedication to the game over the entire season.

The team themselves are for over 35s and apart from two this was everyone elses first season playing social soccer.

They made the semi finals but were beaten in the semi game. Not bad for a bunch of old women that had never played soccer before. So proud of all of them for their efforts this season. Was great to go and cheer them on even on the cold raining nights. This weeks designs are both Christmas Toppers kits.

Busy Sunday

Last Sunday was a busy day. First off down to the park on the waterfront for our grandsons 10th Birthday. Was a fun filled day where everyone got wet! No it didnt rain.

There is a small water park with water cannons but because of the number of other kids parties his Mum had arranged other water activities.

Water Bombs, water pistols and nerf guns. So lots of wet kids. Trying to light the candles on his cake was a mission as there was quite a sea breeze blowing and they were going out faster than I was lighting them.

So we did things a little back to front and he blew the candles out before we sang Happy Birthday.

Once it was cut it was so yummy. Then when that finished I messaged my daughter as her step daughter was playing touch football on the other side of town.

Her step daughter made the Top 8 teams the day before, so they were doing play offs.

They made top 4 so we headed off from the park to where they were playing being that we had time to get there while they were still in it.

A game was in progress which if they won theyd be in the grand final. So we got there in time to watch the girls play off in the GF.

The team they were up against had not lost a game all season so everything was crossed that the grand daughters team could pull a win out of the bag.

Five minutes to go and scores were locked at 3 -3. Then 2 mins to go our team scored which decided the final score 4-3. So proud of the effort the grand daughter put in and helped them win.

This weeks designs are both DL size cards, one for Christmas and one for Birthday
