My brother in Switzerland has started a snail farm = Escagot He leased a piece of land from a farmer planted grass and some veggies built up rows as you can see on the pictures.
Got him self 350000 baby snails from France and started to feed them cornmeal and added calcium for the snail-houses.
Now 51/2 month later they are around 30gram a piece and ready to harvest. There is a little 3foot fence around the whole park with a small electric currant so the snail cannot escape just like with cows.
Also the netting will keep the birds away.
The going price is about 5 EU or about 6.5 US dollar per kilo. He has about 4-5 tons so you do the math!
Plus he will get about 50cents per snail -house for crafty people. It is such a interesting endeavored. Plus did you know there is such a thing as "SNAIL CAVIAR" go check him out on FB at : Etis Schneckenpark Please let me know if I can design other building block names for you.

On our way from Sydney on Queen Mary back to the USA we stopped in Tonga.
It is an archipelago of scattered islands about two-thirds of the way from Hawaii to New Zealand. is a Polynesian kingdom of more than 170 islands, many uninhabited, most lined in white beaches and coral reefs and covered with tropical rainforest.
The main island, Tongatapu, is protected by lagoons and limestone cliffs.It has a population of 105,323? another 100,000 Tongans live overseas, mostly in Australia, New Zealand/Aotearoa and the US.
The Kingdom relies heavily on foreign aid and remittances from citizens working abroad. The picture is the Kings Palace.
On my trip to Switzerland I saw this very clever way to recycling all kinds of articles. It was located in a Grocery Store which you have to go anyway and there no extra trip needed to be environmentally conscious.
As you can see there is a picture of a cd or water bottle and the appropriate slot/opening for you to place the Item.
Living in North America I always noted that Europe is much more into recycling. Hope these patterns will get you started on your Christmas List early :)
On our trip to the Yukon we encountered a lot of rain wind and cold weather. Luckily we stayed in provincial campgrounds for only 12.- dollars a night . Although I think we used up more free firewood then that a day due to the weather.
So I discovered a new way for me anyway - how to make Marshmallows even better. I have those little swiss chocolate squares in my fridge and stuck them in the middle of the marshmallows and MMMMMMMMM was it ever good.
So know I am home again and it is back to low carb and no sweets to loose the extra pounds. :) Thank you for your patronage
Hyder is a very small town of 87 at the 2010 census. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 14.8 square miles (38 km2), of land.Stewart, British Columbia is 2 miles (3 km) away by road via International Street.
Besides a few local roads, NF-88 heads north and enters Canada and no other roads connect Hyder with the rest of Alaska. Alaska State Troopers patrol the town, but are not located in town.
The nearest policing is sometimes provided by stopovers by the Stewart Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Detachment from the Canadian side. There is no fire or EMS services in town.
When required they are provided by nearby Stewart. I went there to see the Fish Creek Wildlife Observation Site -it is a day-use recreation area in the Salmon River .
The salmon come up the river in July and Aug. to spawn and die. So the Bears are there to feast on the fish.
