The Magic Of Dartmoor Ponies

This time, I thought you might like to share in a magical experience we had the other week. Visiting Dartmoor (in scorching heat, itself a rarity there, or so I hear) we came across a family of the famous virtually-wild Dartmoor ponies.

They were trying to get shade by a rocky tor. And, on looking closely, it was plain they were also forming a protective circle around two foals. `Best just to observe them from the car, and leave them in peace,` we decided.

But then, when the other visitors had gone, the ponies gathered in what I can only describe as looking like a `horse conference`.

After which, they paraded in single file down the hill, as if having decided to show us there family. The photo shows just two of these beautiful animals, though you can see from it just how close to our car they came.

The experience of seeing all seven of them voluntarily paying us a visit, including the two tiny foals, was a piece of magic that we`ll always remember.

A Very Muddy Squirrel

Thought you might enjoy this picture of a very muddy squirrel that we spotted in Highgate Woods this week. We were only able to photo him because he`d found a tasty snack on the ground.

And he was a joy to watch, even if (as you can see from the photo) after all the rain (we have had so.much.rain here) there was waaay more mud around him than we`ve ever seen in June before.

A Cute And Sleepy Fox...

Our fox is back again. Hubby and I saw him several times last week, including curled up, fast asleep, in the middle of our neighbours garden.

He looked so cute and peaceful that it was the perfect photo opportunity.

Our foxy friend was there for about 40 minutes, (completely unfazed by the fact it was broad daylight and the middle of a Saturday afternoon).

In fact, he only woke up when the rain came. At that point, he stretched mightily, shook himself dry of water...and then just seemed to melt away into the bushes.

Will keep you posted if and when he returns...

An Afternoon With Azaleas

It`s that time of year again...Hubby and I spent a beautiful afternoon amongst the blooming azaleas and rhododendrons at Kenwood House in Hampstead.

Bright pinks, purples, oranges, whites and reds, all trained into shubberies, arches and secret, whimsical paths.

The weather may have got strangely cold and wet this week, but the silver lining is that these wonderful flowers are (apparently) at their very best in drizzly conditions that mimic misty mountainsides... and give everyone a visual treat.

Like A Holiday In The Med...

So it finally happened.

Someone forgot to tell the weather it was Easter Bank holiday-and strolling round an -almost-empty-because-everyone-went-to-the-coast London was like the best four days in the Med...without the hassle of flying or travel. These tulips in Holland Park were just a tiny part of that...there were multiple beds, and they were so stunning I almost cried with joy at the glorious colours.

A Bank Holiday well spent...Hope you were able to enjoy it too.
