ED200 Mandala
Stitching with beads

Who would want to not only colour mandala art work when it is possible to stitch one as beautiful as this?
I have used regular sewing threads in three shades of aqua blue and one of pink.
I have not followed exactly the stitching and beading guide, which is extremely helpful and works perfectly, but wanted to test my originality and used 1-4 stitching on the smallest stars and used pink sequins with tiny blue pink centred seed beads in place of the spacers.
I have used a white 11.5cm square card to copy the pattern onto and completed the stitching first using the darkest aqua blue for the centre spiral, the palest aqua blue for the inner circle and the medium shade of aqua for the petal shaped images in the centre section and also for the outer small curves.
All the rest of the stitching has been completed with the one shade of pale pink.
I have used 8 textured 7mm pearl rice beads inside the aqua blue petal shapes, 8 tiny blue pink centred glass seed beads for the point of the outer pink petal shapes and 8 of the same seed beads together with a pearl finished pink sequin where it indicates to use the spacer with a bead on the stitching guide.
For the inside beads in the pink petals, I have used 8 of the same pearl seed beads together with a 3mm round pearl bead.
In total I have used 40 beads to complete the project.
To make the card, I have used white Crafty Bob 250gsm white matte card and scored and folded it, and cut it down to measure 14cm square.
I have used a 13cm square pale aqua backing sheet, to attach, using D.S. tape to a 12.5cmx9.5cm pink spotty backing paper and a 12.5cmx2cm rose pink backing paper, joined together using D.S. tape at the back, then attached the 2.5cm aqua organza ribbon across the front at the join and attached the tails behind the aqua backing sheet.
I attached this backing sheet group to the card front. I prepared the backing of the stitched and beaded mandala by attaching a 10cm square of pink spotty paper to the back using red power tape to secure all the threads.
I have defined the edges of the stitched and beaded work using a ruler and a dark aqua metallic pen before attaching this to the card front using padded D.S. tape.
I have tied the bow using the same organza ribbon.
To complete the insert, I have used an aqua backing sheet cut to fit, and attached a tiny image of the completed card front on the left hand side with a sentiment and written a verse to attach on the right hand side.
This card is planned as a Birthday card for one of the members of our Charity craft group, so I will make an envelope 5½” square to match, which will require a 9” square sheet of paper.
