Stitching with beads
Photographs from the Community (3)
Here is another absolutely beautiful stitching design by Emy van Schaik, which I found a little more challenging, be it as it may, I am so satisfied with the outcome having completed the project as a Christmas card.
I have copied the design from the sheet provided onto white satin finished 170gsm photo paper, cut at 13cm square.
Emy’s, beautifully stitched in blue example, attached finished stitched lines and attached 24 pearl beads, used to enter into the next point of the triangle example, do not continue into the larger outer line across the space formed.
The number of beads I have used for this area of the pattern is 24 following the attached pattern guide.
There is plenty of room for variation using this main pattern as a guide, by varying the cross over points, reducing the number of beads to altering the position of the beads.
I have used 3 shades of metallic thread, the red I have used to stitch the inner 8 inter locking petal shapes and the larger outer 2 sets of 4 petal shapes, I have stitched 1 set in gold and the other set in pale green.
I completed the stitching before attaching any beads. I began stitching the beads in the centre using a gold sequin, and attached a red glass seed bead into the centre.
I have used 8 metallic gold, 11mm rice beads each with a tiny red seed glass bead at each end to form the centre flower style image.
I have attached the 14red metallic 5mm rice beads, before attaching the 8 gold metallic rice beads.
To complete the stitching and bead attachment I have then attached 8 gold metallic sequins, instead of spacers, in place next, each with a mid- sized green glass seed bead attached into the centre.
I have defined the edges with a green metallic fine line permanent pen before attaching the red narrow ribbon across horizontally, the centre of the back, of the finished card topper.
I have then attached red power tape onto a 12cm square backing sheet and attached this to the back of the work to secure the stitching.
I have used a 14cm square satin finished gold foil backing sheet to attach wrapping and securing the ribbon at the back before using the same red power tape to attach the topper to the card front.
The main card is cup1049542_21027 Red and white soft toned gingham backing sheet which I have printed onto both sides of Crafty Bob 200 gsm white matte photo paper and scored and folded it before cutting it down to 28.75x15cm and turned to easel format.
I have defined the edges inside and out with a red pen and attached the topper.
I have used gold glitter peel off decorative corners and 9 tiny gold glitter spots to attach inside centrally of the 8 red central floral petal style shapes and one for the top of the central sequin and red glass bead.
I tied the matching bow and attached it using red power tape to complete the embellishments for the card front.
To complete the insert section, I have attached a small image of the card front some snowflakes and a Christmas sentiment for the top half of the insert and attached the verse I have chosen from the free verse section, Christmas for friends and added some peel off stars and snowflakes.
This has become a Christmas greeting card like no other and a design to re-make in many shades to suit many occasions.
I hope my detailed description will encourage others to make this stunning design. Pamela Horton. The Whispering Platypus.
