Stitching with beads
Photographs from the Community (3)
I printed this beading design by Emy to have a final measurement of 15.75 x 16 .5 cm and when pricking the design onto the card allowed a small margin of 1cm all round which I later trimmed off when the stitching was completed.
I used both lines of the design as the sheet indicates. I used polyester threads in the shades of mauve for the star stitched circles, navy blue for the tiny 10 point stars and the small arches and metallic mauve for all the cross stitching and the mauve polyester to attach the beads.
I also used 48 glass 7mm tube navy blue beads, and 36 glass tube 7mm mauve beads. This colour scheme gives a soft feminine look to the completed card. The stitching is very easy to follow, and quick to complete, which belies the lovely completed finish.
I used the central space to attach a small, 7.5cm square step by step method decoupage which I had backed with a matching backing sheet, cut at 8.5 x 8cm to fit into the space between the lines of the stitched beads.
I used a blue mauve spot embroidered ribbon to wrap across this backing sheet. I then attached the completed decoupage to the stitched card front using padded D.S. tape.
I coloured the sentiment with a dark purple and tied a simple bow which I have attached the on the left using red power tape.
I completed the insert before I attached the stitched card front to the main card.
I used the same backing sheet for the insert as used for the backing sheet on the main card front, and cut it at 33cm to fit the inside of the main card which is cream and measures 34cm x 18cm.
I attached 4 miniature images of the decoupage to the lower section of the insert. I then went back to complete the card front.
I cut the backing sheet at 17.5 x 16.5 and attached it to the folded card front using D.S. tape and then the stitched card front using the same tape, the edges of which I had defined using a navy blue permanent pen.
I used a glitter silver and purple peel off strip down both side fronts to complete the look. The design itself lends the user to use one or both lines of stitching and of course absolute choice of thread and bead colour to suit whatever the occasion for the celebration.
I am using this for a female 70th Birthday, but it would suit just as well for a Mothers’ Day, Get Well, Thinking of You, and so many more as a greeting card.
I haven’t written the verse, at this point in time, but I will later in the week and add it the free verse list.
This has become a beautiful card for which I thank Emy, for offering this design for purchase. Pamela Horton. The Whispering Platypus
