Winner

A few months ago I wrote about our son winning 2 Mustang vehicles. Well he sold the newer one of them and kept the older one a 1968 Shelby.

It is a GT 500 Elanor.Last Sunday there was a car show on, run by the Jimboomba Heritage Car Club, at the Pub Lane Tavern (sponsors).

We said to Brad that he should enter his car in it, so he did. It was supposed to be held last month but was postponed because of the rain.

So we rugged up nice and early and headed off, met up with him and the family and made a morning of it.

The meet was called Triple Treat and was open to cars, trucks and motorbikes. There were some beautifully restored vehicles there (and I didnt get pics of any of them!) but it was awesome just looking at them.

There were so many that any of the prizes on offer wouldve been worthy of winning. We were parked near some of the motorbikes and I couldnt help but notice one numberplate in particular….. see the photo.

So many wonderful comments and lots of people taking photos of Brads car we were hoping he might get something in the prizes.

Being his first show, we kind of were a bit disappointed when he didnt get the Encouragement Award. They went through the rest of the trophy presentation and we were about to walk away when they got to the last trophy when they started to read out the number plate of the top award, Peoples Choice…….

Hey thats Brad!! What an honour for him.

First show ever and he won the biggest trophy of the day. How good is that? So it was definitely worth braving the cold so early in the morning and enjoying the great company of all the people there and seeing some awesome machines.

Top Guns

The release of the second Top Gun movie has sure had an impact on people wanting to experience being a fighter jet pilot.

We have a group here that does extreme sports, one of which is a flight in a jet plane for 15 or 30 minute flights out of Archerfield airport here in Brisbane.

For a hefty price one can take a flight where you experience G forces up to 6.5, barrel rolls or for the less faint hearted just enjoy a flight out over the dam near us.

The plane used is a L-39 Albatros which used to belong to the Ukraine Air Force. Normally we may see one during the week and a couple on the weekends but the last couple of weeks its been at least one a day during the week and last Saturday we saw at least 6 runs.

They fly just to the south of us but we get an uninterrupted view of them out the front of our house.

They barrel roll to one side and then barrel roll to the other which I love watching. We see them further to the southwest climb straight up and then dive back down.

The plane is capable of doing aileron rolls, barrel rolls, loops, Cuban-8s and is a 2 seater plane with 360 deg views.

Not sure its my cup of tea but watching them is.

Sorry...........

Another post about winter! Apparently weve had the coldest start to winter in 100 years here in Brisbane. I have to admit that when we left here in 2004 I cannot remember June beingso cold.

We sure did get some cold days back then but mornings have been downto 1 deg C (with a feel like temp of minus 1) for about a week.

This morning is not much better with temperature as I write this of 5deg C but feels like 2.7 deg C.

Weve had frosts and ice on the cars which in a way has kind of been a bit of a novelty as we simply arent used to it.

I do remember previously it getting to 0 degC but later in the year (July and August) so Mother Nature really has turned her winter button on.

The whole east coast of Australia has felt the brunt of it all with the snow fields metres deep already. After the last couple of years with people not being able to travel they would be loving it, as people flock to the snowfields.

The rain has left us for now which has been great as the ground has had time to dry out a little but forecasts are saying that we will have a wetter than usual winter this year as it looks like we are heading into a third La Nina this year.

Who knows what will happen. Qld usually only gets snow around Stanthorpe/Applethorp or a little further south around the Qld/NSW border. As Ive never seen snow, Im thinking about maybe a trip down there if it looks like it will be a decent fall.

I envy my kids as they are going down to Victoria to the snow fields in August. But in the meantime, Ill stay inside the house with the fire going….. thank heavens we have that!Even the cat likes sitting on her food table, just watching the dancing flames where its warm.

Another Year..........

Older but debatable if another year wiser! First of June is officially the first day of winter here and it also happens to be my Birthday. Ive always hated my birthday because it heralds the cold weather arriving, which it usually does.

We have a football series here State of Origin where us Queenslanders go up against New South Wales in a series of 3 games and its held early June.

It also heralds the first frosts of the year around the time of the first game. The cold temperatures arrived on schedule but the frosts held off a week and arrived this morning……… the first game in the SOO was last night.

So cold weather is not what I want for my Birthday!! I did have some nice things though. Got time to spend time with the kids and some lovely presents.

Got a Birthday pack of Scratchies (lotto tickets) which Im glad to say there was some winners in them, some lovely flowers and my daughter took me shopping for a new coat.

She knows how much I feel the cold and after living in tropical/semi tropical climate she figured I could do with a jacket that was super warm.

I love it.

Wore it this morning when the temperature was 1 deg (feel like temp was minus 3) and was so warm in it.

Pulled the hood up and although I only had a sleeveless top on underneath (had to have blood test so no good wearing a long sleeve) I didnt feel the cold at all.

So despite the freezing temperatures I had a great birthday.

You Know Its Cold..........

When even the cat wants to wear a Flanny (flannelette shirt). Well winter has arrived here Downunder. We had 3 weeks in May that it rained, then the last week of May saw us see the arrival of winter with a cold front move through accompanied with cold westerly winds.

Weve even had a couple of days of sunshine (rest cloudy days) which is great as it will dry up some of the saturated ground.

This morning weve had our coldest day so far this year at 6 degrees (apparent temp was 3 degrees), but the wind has gone thankfully, so with clear nights its cold!

The good old flanny shirt is usually the choice of clothing when it gets cool although jumpers have been dragged out this week and hubby had thrown his flanny on the bed where the cat decided she was cold and needed to wear it.

She crawled under it for a couple of hours till her spot near the window got the sun and then she migrated to the sunshine.
