Need new accessories? This pattern is very versatile and can be used to make a range of accessories, including a headband, choker necklace, bracelet or belt. Each item can be adorned with dangling beads to improve the end result. To make an array of seashell accessories, simply follow these basic instructions:
Abbreviations
- Sc = single crochet
- Dc = double crochet
- Fasten off = cut the thread leaving a long tail of thread to later be woven and hidden in between stitches
Steps
-
Measure the circumference of an area of the body where you would like to wear the accessory. Use a fabric tape measure as it bends easily.
- Keep in mind that bracelets can be worn at the upper arm, wrist or ankle, so measure the relevant portion of the body.
-
Crochet a series of chain stitches equivalent to the length of your measurement. Turn.
-
Sc in each chain stitch to create a long, solid border. Turn.
-
Sc in the first sc, * skip 2 sc, 5 dc in the next sc (seashell made), skip 2 sc, sc in the next sc. Repeat from * ending with a sc in the last sc. Turn.
-
Chain 4. * Sc in the second, third and fourth dc of the seashell, chain 3. Repeat from * ending with a chain one and dc in the last stitch. Turn.
-
Sc in each stitch of the previous row to create a long, solid border on the other side of the seashell. Fasten off.
-
Crochet two ties. Attach the crochet thread to the end of the accessory and chain 100 stitches. Fasten off.
-
Add dangling beads to one edge or both edges of an accessory, if desired. Stitch them by hand, onto the solid border, with a needle and matching thread.
-
Use the resulting accessory. Here are some suggested methods for wearing, depending on what you've crocheted:
- Tie a choker necklace towards the front, back or side of your neck.
- Tie a belt towards the front, back or side of your garment.
- Tie a headband towards the front, back or side of your head. Fasten the headband into your hair with hairpins.
Tips
- Try an open seashell consisting of 2 dc, chain one, 2 dc.
- Tie in a bow or with a double knot. Crochet ties that are longer in length, if desired.
- Thread beads over the end of a tie. Make a knot at the end of the tie to hold them in place.
- Attach two or three ties at each end of an accessory. Tie in a double knot to form a tassel.
