Have you read my other rubber band bass article yet? Well I said that I am going to make an article on how to make some effects on it, so read on on how to change the sound of your rubber band bass.

Steps

  1. Think about what you want to change about it. Can it be done with retuning? Do you really need an effect, or can you just put it up to a microphone to get it louder. If you do need an effect read on.
  2. Make it louder. While megaphones work, they're pretty rare too.
    1. Get a large plastic coffee can, this will lower the sound and make it louder.
    2. You need to get it and put it right under where the hole is to take the place of the box, and make sure that the hole is smaller than the can, this may require you to open up the back of the box to do this.
    3. If it is inaudible (you can't hear it), then you need to re-tune them to be higher until you can hear it.
  3. To change the sound, try making a string mute. That means that you wrap it up in another rubber band, and it loses its small echo (if it ever had one).
  4. If you're bored of it just being normal, add some extra handles, or cooler decorations, and for a different sound, just get some songs made, and if you want to, add some strings. When adding strings, the normal ones that should always be there would be 1/A, 2/B, 3/C and 4/D, and if you add lower ones, they can go all the way to -8/AA. In the letter notation system, when you go one down, you go to AA, then BB, CC, DD, AAA, BBB, CCC and DDD. you get the pattern for if you can get any lower in an audible range. in the number system, it just goes into the negatives. For higher strings, in the letter system you go to Z, X, Y, W, V, U, T, S and anything higher than that would make it a poorly tuned rubber band guitar with a whole crap ton 'o strings.
  5. Get the distortion effect, which happens if you get metal cans under it, and then pluck with a guitar pick and when the hole is half blocked. Another way to do this is to replace the metal cans with a plastic bag, and sometimes even filled up with water.
  6. Add the echo effect. This one does not require a modification, but you to have some awesome fingers. You pluck it the first time, which is the loudest, then again, but quieter, then again and even quieter, then that pattern continues.
  7. Try coming up with some others and putting them in this article, they will be VERY appreciated.
