The Man Engine by Davina Rundle

I expect some of you will have seen the media coverage of The Man Engine, the largest ever mechanical puppet built in Britain, created to celebrate the 10th anniversary of UNESCO giving World Heritage Status to Cornwalls Mining Sites and history, making them as important as the likes of The Taj Mahal and The Pyramids! We have had the excitement of this brewing for several months as our son in law was involved in the creation of the puppet and did most of the welding for it. For 2 weeks the puppet is travelling the length of Cornwall visiting 10 mining sites, but little did they know how popular he would be! An estimated crowd of 15,000 people alone came to see the transformation in Truro. The puppet is being transported by lorry, but at most destinations he transforms from crawling status to his full height of 10.2 metres tall, then puppeteers animate him using ropes. The team behind this have worked extremely hard, and have been rewarded by the huge interest, and to top it all have gained an entry into the Guinness Book of Records.

Wright brothers cycle shop museum in

Dayton, Ohio by Judith Henry

Touring around the USA and stopped to visit family in Dayton. It was so much fun to see real antique bicycle that Ive been researching for popup books. I had even seen one of these photos in the picture. While there we visited the aviation museum also. Naturally I now have ideas around planes, ejecting seats and parachutes. Wrights were also interested in printing which is my husbands passion. So today we hit both of our interests.

I now have two popup cards in the bicycle theme.

Getting creative by Kelly Barker

Well the school holidays are now in full swing and as usual we have kept ourselves very busy so far, with brownie camp and jamboree, the local regatta with fireworks and a few visits to the pub. This week has been a little bit quieter, mainly because I am trying to rest a sore foot, no doubt we will be back to the craziness next week. With a few quiet days I have had a bit of time to get the facepaints out, which is something I love doing, the only problem is that my girls are very specific which leaves little room for creative licence on my part!! Which I may have complained about a once or twice ha ha. Heres a few pictures of this weeks attempts, not my best work, but the girls were very happy and I was just glad to have a paintbrush in my hand after a very long time, I can feel a watercolour coming on. This week I have puts lots of my comic book designs on special offer with 25% off. Please remember to follow me by clicking my follow button and thank you for looking x

CAMPING THE CHEATING WAY

by Wanda Lipski

My brother and his family have come down to France for their holidays under canvas. My brother may be a Scout master and used to roughing it, but this is definitely glamping ... Ive never seen so much equipment and they have to borrow the scout trailer (capable of holding all the necessary for an entire troop just for their gear. It was so lovely to see them all and as you can see from my smile, Im really happy to be there ... Oh, you want to know about the cheating. We may eat with them, spend time with them, but my aging bones now book a lovely bed and breakfast really close by: comfortable bed, hot shower and now worry when there is a storm during the night. Thanks bro for the invite. Feeling sort of soft and romantic, so here are a couple of my latest creations. Thanks for reading this far and I wish you great holidays!!!

Beautiful view! by Sue Way

We went away in our caravan again last week. Once again to our favourite site on the Suffolk coast. One the best bits is when you walk through the gate off the site field onto this lane the leads down to the beach. I took this picture with the lovely blue sky as we headed out, but in typical British weather fashion 1/2 hour later we were rushing back as dark clouds gathered & we spent the next hour listening to lashing rain on the caravan roof. Luckily it soon cleared & the rest of the day was nice. Here are a couple of my latest designs. Dont forget to click follow next to my name so you never miss my updates and thank you to everyone who follows me.http://www.craftsuprint.com/sue-way/?r=968387

Rain DIDNT stop Play!! by Carol Clarke

Its the school summer Holidays here in the UK and so Im on Holiday Nana duties and get longer with my lovely grandchildren. The weather didnt play fair on the day we headed to Clumber Park though. It has been sunny on the way there but as soon as we got out of the car the heavens opened and the rain came down in sheets!! We quickly headed for the greenhouses in the Kitchen Garden and sat down to eat our (obligatory) ice creams to wait out the showers. Sadly it didnt stop raining the whole time we were there ... but this didnt stop 17 month old Austin from enjoying himself though! lol After splashing in the puddles he was happy to play with the handle and lock on the greenhouse doors! lolBelow are more of my On the Shelf Cards. Watch out for more Coming soon ... Just as soon as Ive drawn the characters! lol

Delightful Dahlias! by Janyce Cotterill

My friend and I were out walking last week and came across a walled garden. In this beautiful garden were these stunning dahlias. I just had to have some photos of them. Not having particularly green fingers I have since been reading up on these splendid blooms. Mexico is where they originally come from and the Aztecs used parts of the flower for food and medicine. I also read that they are quite easy to cultivate - I am tempted to have an attempt to grow my own. If I ever do, you will see it here first! But before I get the garden trowel out Im leaving you with a couple of my latest designs. First is a sheet on the theme of wine, from the second set of my Sometimes.....range of designs - and - now the Christmas designs are starting to appear onsite Im leaving you with one of my snowman sheets. Cant believe we are into August already! Thank you for your interest.

Smudge by Anne Lever

May I introduce the newest member of our family....Smudge. He is a tom kitten that my mum has just welcomed into her home. He is nine weeks old, black and white with barely there tabby stripes under the black bits. He is absolutely gorgeous! He is very well behaved, and very playful. He loves his jingly toys, which are now everywhere in my mums house!

Had a Great Week by Joanna Swinton

Ive had a visitor from Scotland. She is a cardmaking friend and we had great fun. One day we decided to go into Birmingham City Centre to a warehouse from some craft bits. As we came out there was a long queue of traffic the way we were meant to go. She has a great sense of direction so I believed that she would get us on the right road again. That was not the way things went. We got lost. The place we went to was only 5 miles away. At one point I had to get the sat nav out and it told me we were 7 miles away from home and to make matters worse it was now rush hour. We did a lot of laughing cause as soon as I got my bearings a diversion would crop up and Id be lost again. By the time we got home my husband had come home from work and made the dinner. In all we had a great week doing lot of different crafting things

Norfolk Broads and Theatre Trip

by Sheila Rodgers

For a change I escaped my island last month and had not one but two adventures! Firstly I went to Newcastle Theatre Royal to see West Side Story. This was my birthday present from my daughter Julia. We also took my mum as her birthday present. We all really enjoyed it and I can highly recommend it. Ive told Julia Id like to go to see Mamma Mia for my next birthday! Then a day after my theatre trip I went down to the Norfolk Broads for a week on a boat with my husband, son, grandson and sons partner. On the whole we had glorious weather and Ive now got the best tan Ive had for years! Mind you, after living in a confined space with other people it was very nice to get back to my tranquility by the loch, and only hear waves and birdsong instead of engine noise!

A New Garden! by Robyn Cockburn

Paul and I have been busy in the garden. As it is still quite cool here, its not so much of a chore to work in the garden. I decided that we needed some more shade on the south western side of the house. It gets VERY hot over there in summer and its also not quite as enclosed and private as I might like it. So we have made a big new garden and planted some golden canes (types of palms), a pink frangipani that I struck from cutting from my other tree and a lovely advanced jade plant that my parents gave me. Lucy, my lovely cat-dog, thinks all the activity outside is great. She continues to be a complete maniac and I am convinced she is part dog! She actually plays fetch with me now- it used to be just a game of catch where I had to throw a ball or toy and she would chase it and jump on it. Quite often now she actually brings it back to me to throw again! I have NEVER known a cat to do that before!

Challenge Coin by Vicki Avcin

Several weeks ago the call went out for emergency service personnel to send in concepts for a Queensland Fire and Emergency Challenge coin here in Queensland. People could submit as many design concepts as they liked but they had to represent who we were and what our core values are and what we do. A challenge coin for those that dont now are a token memento given out to members of the executive leadership team for presentation to international dignitaries, corporate stakeholders and operational partners. I wasnt going to try but hubby encouraged me to send in some designs. I sent one set of front and back and displayed them, one in gold and one in silver for both front and back.At the close of submissions, there were 34 entries. A friend heard back weeks ago that his design had been one of three shortlisted and when I didnt hear anything I thought well thats it my designs missed out and thought nothing more of it. Then about 3 weeks later I got an email to say that my design had been picked to be the front of the coin! Wow I was over the moon……… ecstatic was an understatement. But although I couldnt show anyone the design I could tell them my design was going to be on the front of the coin. So finally earlier this week it was announced for official use the successful designs. They tweaked it slightly as I had a black band around the edge with the text but the design was for Queensland so they put maroon (Qlds colour) on the band instead of my black, but otherwise ……… yes….. MY design. I get a coin in a presentation box given to me so really excited to see what they look like made up. And the back side of the coin went to my friend too so that was awesome. The photo is the front and back of the challenge coin. Please note these photos are copyright and cannot be used for any reason.
