Bass Rock by Janyce Cotterill

Sir David Attenborough described it as, one of the 12 wildlife wonders of the world. Chris Packham said this gannet-capped island is the most exciting bird spectacle in the UK. Having been on a boat around the island and witnessing these amazing birds I have to agree with them both.On the coast not far from Scotlands capital, Edinburgh, the Bass Rock is nothing short of spectacular. During the bird breeding season, which is going on now in the UK, Bass Rock is the home to over 150,000 gannets. The white on the top of the rock is bird after bird after bird. What you cannot see unless you are close up to the photo is how the air above and around the island is thronging with flying gannets. It really is an amazing site.We often are up on the East Lothian coast, as we were last weekend, and I always stand in awe of this astonishing sight. If you are ever in the area - dont miss it! Im leaving you this week with a couple of designs, far removed from nature, but some people are enthusiastic about the subject of football as i am about wildlife! Thank you for your interest. Flyover, Happy Dog, and flowers

Being an American and living here in the UK I always enjoy the pomp and ceremony of the Queens Birthday. I usually start the day watching the Trooping of the Colours on the telly. Then we go out into the garden and watch the fly over. We are right under the flightpath of the planes on their way to the Mall. This year we added in a local fete for a charity. And some play in the garden before the fly over. Millie was having a great day as you can tell from her smile. Waiting for the planes to fly over I took some photos of the flowers in the garden. I did manage to get a few photos of the planes, But the ones I love are the Red Arrows but all I got of them was blue sky this year.

A relaxing break! by Sue Way

Last weekend we took our touring caravan for its second outing. We decided to go a bit further this time. as we usually stay quite close to home. We went up to the Suffolk coast to a lovely town called Leiston. The site is right on the beach and is absolutely beautiful, with a rugged mix of sea, sand and countryside and its common to see rabbits on the beach in the early evening. The only downside to this lovely place is Sizewell nuclear power station, but you just have to ignore it. The site is very quiet, with only a reception & bar/cafe, which is the old white house on the seafront. It has a games room in the basement, which we made use of with a game of pool. The site is a good base to get out and about to see Suffolk, driving though pretty countryside and villages. One day we visited the beautiful, unspoiled seaside town of Southwold. The nature series Spring Watch is filmed at RSPB Minsmere, which is very close by, but as we take our Golden Alfie everywhere with us, we couldnt visit there as no dogs are allowed. Sudden Flood by Joanna Swinton

In Sutton Park, at Widney Gate there is a small stream that runs through with a wooden bridge over the top. The stream at its deepest is about 15cms and in the hot weather dogs and kids play in it. The man made bridge is about a metre above the water. This week we had a massive thunder storm. I had been out with my dog and got into the car and drove into it. At out house, I got out of the car, walked 6 paces and had to get changed as I was soaked, it was raining that hard. The day after when we went to Widney Gate, we were shocked to see that the small gentle stream had turned into a river with strong current. The storm was very heavy but I didnt think it was that bad!

Scottish Adventures by Robyn Cockburn

The first part of our touring around Scotland found us in Stirling. Margaret McCartney contacted me so we were able to meet face to face! Its not often I get to meet anyone Ive met through CUP. Margaret was kind enough to drive us around. She took us to Banockburn, and we also saw Stirling Castle, the Wallace Monument and some lovely highland cows. On our way into Stirling we also visited the fabulous Kelpies. Just amazing.

Painting Expedition by Joan King

Today (thursday 16th June) my husband and I had to go back to our old home town of Rotorua about 1 hrs drive away to the Art Gallery. I had to drive as he currently has bacterial conunctivitis in his eye poor thing. He recently received two commissions from someone for two different local scenes. They had to be specific sizes to fit into a particular place which made things a little more difficult for him. He eventually completed his commissions within the 3 week time frame he was allotted which was good as this time of the year (Winter) it takes them a lot longer to dry as they are in oils. The size he had to do was 36 inches x 10 inches. I have attached a photograph of both paintings which are of two of the local lakes in the area, one which we lived at until we moved to the coast. While over there we had a lovely lunch out and did a few chores and then came back much earlier than when we normally do so missed the sun in our eyes and the rush hour traffic. The gallery owner was very happy with them as they were exactly what the purchaser wanted. He ordered 11 paintings in total from a range of different artists.

Then After The Rain by June Harrop

Just when we are fooled into believing that summer has finally arrived with lovely long warm sunny days someone decides to turn the tap on.A short while ago the skies went black and the thunder started and then came the deluge. It rained for about 10 minutes non stop. When it stopped I just happened to look out of the window and saw the brightest rainbow I had ever seen. I could not believe how vibrant it looked. Even the photo I took does not do it justice it was beautiful.

Happy 8th Birthday Jessica by Kelly Barker

This week it was my eldest daughter Jessicas 8th birthday. She had to go to school on her birthday, but she still had a lovely day and got to open a few great pressies! Her favourite present was a new tablet, she couldnt believe it when she opened it as she really wasnt expecting it. We went out for a meal with my in-laws to celebrate and we will be seeing my mum and dad this weekend to continue the celebrations. The best bit is coming up next week when she finally has her party, because I am taking her and a few friends for a pamper party at a local beauty salon, we cant wait! Here is a picture of Jessica and Imogen from her birthday morning, complete with bed hair. Here is one of my thank you teacher rosette cards as itll be the end of the school year before we know it. We have a winner! by Tina Fitch

Well after all the practising last week for the competition the twins did very well indeed.... Megan came third, and Ava came second from roughly 400 children.. We were over the moon with the result achieved by both of them.They are only 6 and have worked very hard and the hard work paid off just nicely! As you can see by the photo Both got certificates and Ava got a nice little Trophy... She was so pleased with it she didnt let it out of her site ..
