New Start at College by Mx Paton

I started college at the beginning of January to study Social Sciences, which means Im learning about history, geography, criminology & psychology. Its really interesting. Im receiving support from learning inclusion which has taken a lot of the stress off and Ive been given the loan of a LiveScribe smartpen, its taking some getting used to!However, In my first history class, I took the opportunity to ask the lecturer about where to start looking for Scottish Labour archives from early-mid 20th century as my {maternal} great-uncle Tommy was a trade unionist and prominent member of the Scottish Labour Party. I think it would be really interesting to see the type of work he did, especially as he died while working in the Cold War-era USSR. Anyway, I discovered an official record pointing me towards information pertaining to his death which I thought was really cool and has directed me towards a local crematorium. I wonder how else college will aid my family history research? ^_^

Dhobi Ghat Mumbay- Open Laundry by Silvia Griffin

An open air laundromat in Mumbai, India. The washers, known as dhobis, work in the open to clean clothes and linens from Mumbais hotels and hospitals. It was constructed in 1890. The word Dhobi Ghat is used all over India to refer to any place where many washers are present. For 18 to 20 hours each day, over 7,000 people flog, scrub, dye and bleach clothes on concrete wash pens, dry them on ropes, neatly press them and transport the garments to different parts of the city. Over 100 000 pieces of cloth are cleaned every day. Some of the wealthier dhobis have given up on manual cleaning and have now installed large mechanical washing and drying machines. The dhobis collect clothes from all corners of the city, from Colaba to Virar. Their biggest clients are neighbourhood laundries, garment dealers, wedding decorators and caterers, and mid-sized hotels and clubs.Dhobi Ghat garnered a Guinness Book of World Records entry under most people hand-washing clothes at a single location in 2011. In 2013, World Records India and World Amazing Records honoured World Record Certificate to Dhobi Kalyan & Audhyogik Vikas Co – op.Home to the dhobis and their families (around 200 families), the Dhobi Ghat has seen this occupation passed down from one generation to the next. Also known as the Mahalaxmi Dhobi Ghat, it can be viewed easily from the Mahalaxmi Railway station. This was one of our highlights in Mumbai India.

As always thank you for considering my creations - Silvia

Billy Mumbles by Sue Way

My Golden Retriever Billy talks to me! He climbs on my lap and tells me his news by making little snorting noises. Its so sweet. He does this at least twice every day, he obviously has a lot to tell me. Well, he is a very busy boy! He usually brings his cuddle bear up with him, then he climbs off and sucks it as he falls asleep. He is so sweet. My SALE is on at the moment so grab a bargain quick as today is the last day! http://www.craftsuprint.com/sue-way/?r=968387

Australia Day 2020 by Vicki Avcin

On the 26th January 1788, 11 ships carrying 1373 passengers, of which 732 were convicts, arrived at Port Jackson, now known as Sydney Harbour. Captain of the first fleet, Arthur Phillip declared the settlement open. The people on that fleet began the building of what we now know as, and live in……Australia. Each year celebrations are held around the country and traditionally it is the day when many people gain Australian citizenship at ceremonies around the nation. Our community holds celebrations at the River Heads Community Hall with the raising of the flag, speeches by our local politicians and then the festivities begin. All around the country traditions of pie and lamington eating competitions (eat as much as you can in set time), thong (flip flops as some know them) throwing, and the traditional BBQ. Lots of beer is drunk leaving many sore heads the next day. Different locations hold their own sources of entertainment. This year, the local Progress Association dedicated the day to the firefighters, so it was fitting that our First Officer got to raise the flag. The brigade was given a Community Service Award and the proceeds of the raffle held went to our brigade. Always a great day to celebrate our great nation.

Hooked on Needle Felting by Janice McFarlane

A couple of weeks ago I shared my first needle felting creation of a white kitten, which I was rather pleased with. I have since completed a ginger tabby kitten which I adore and am currently needle felting a koala, where I havent used a kit which the kittens were from, but just my wool roving and a picture. Although it is much smaller than the kittens as I wanted to make it brooch size, it is coming along nicely. I also love to crochet, which as I said before I have done since a child. I am making a selection of items both crocheted, needle felted etc for future craft fairs later in the year. One of my creations it Tilly Treetop, which I was pleased with, I just need to get round to writing the pattern down (and I dont like writing instructions at the best of times), its just finding the time to do it. The Koala creations (Im currently crocheting one too), I hope to sell or raffle to fundraise to help the Animals affected and injured from the awful Australian bush fires.

I would like to say a big thank you to all at Craftsuprint for your help after I had lost and amount of downloads from recent orders. WOW what a lovely surprise I had as I downloaded my recent order to find a whole lot of my lost downloads there on my screen ready to download them all again. Luckily I did not have to go back as far as I thought from June through to Nov as the rest were in a safe place, that's where these will be going as quick as possible. Many thanks for your kind help from a very happy crafter.
