The Oldest Rainforest In The World. by Helen Howell

Part of my visit to Tropical North Queensland was a tour to the Daintree and to Mossman Gorge which is inside the oldest Rainforest in the world. It was just beautiful to see and our guide pointed out many different features to the plants as we strolled through this lush landscape. We were lucky enough to see a Chameleon lizard that was blending itself into a tree trunk. Also was lucky enough to see a golden orb weaver, she was the size of a mans hand and had gold flecks down her side and on her legs. Unfortunately I couldnt get close enough to take a photo of her. Its really something when you stand in an area that has been around for such a long time. Australia is lucky to be able to boast that they have the oldest Rainforest in the world.

Devastation by Vicki Avcin

Well my news last week spoke about the huge fire I was at and we have now found out the statistics on the fire which crews were still at 5 days later. I attended on 2 of those days and was told that the Thursday I was there was the worst of the days. On the Thursday the fire travelled 10 klms. Now that might not seem a lot but when you take into consideration that the 10 klm was from point to point in distance, it burnt over ridges and down gullies as well as across relatively flat pasture topographically. It burnt 10,000 hectare (2.47 acres = 1 hectare). Those hectares are grazing country so no pasture for cattle to graze on at all now. There were no houses lost but if you look at the photo you can see how close it came to many of them so the crews did an awesome job defending those properties. There were only 5 sheds lost which was excellent considering how many sheds farms have for various things like machinery and to store feed etc. Sadly there was 480 head of livestock that were lost which, to the farmers is a huge loss. The second day I was down there I was tasked to black out areas still burning which posed a threat had the wind picked up and blew embers into unburnt ground. Fortunately on Tuesday while crews were still patrolling, making sure that everything was still secure the area received some light rain, and then yesterday (Wednesday) they had some heavier rain with more forecast today which will hopefully put out any small pockets in inaccessible terrain but within containment lines. It is the biggest fire we have had in the area for a few years and with the drought conditions around the district, it could be a (bad) sign of what is ahead this fire season. The community is helping the community with drinking water and cattle feed being donated to the affected properties. Most places are on tank water so before water can be drunk or used, roofs have to be cleaned to stop soot and other contaminants going into the tanks. Power is nearly restored now also to the area. Aussie farmers are a tough breed so they will take it on the chin, be grateful that it wasnt worse and slowly bounce back. The biggest and best reward for us as firefighters is a hug from the property owner saying thanks for saving the house.

Todays promoted items are a couple of Christmas Mini Kits both with traditional greeting sentiments and also for sending overseas. My sale is currently on also so all items in my store are discounted till the end of the month.

Little Evacuee by Janice McFarlane

Living at an RAF base my grandson Alfie goes to the RAF school. Needless to say they get involved in a lot more military based events, and have the privilege of having displays from the Chinooks and Puma helicopters that are based there. On this occasion it was different. The school was having a Battle of Britain Day and teaching the children about it. They asked if the children could go dressed in a costume pertinent to what was happening in 1940/41. Alfie chose to dress as a child evacuee, complete with gas mask box. I thought he looked the part even if his trousers were a little baggy.

FOR DOG OWNERS WHO DONT LIVE IN THE UK by Wanda Lipski

All you Brits may scoff at the things this Anglo/Frog finds amusing but when I snapped this DOGGY YOGHURT point of sale machine in Southwold during my recent visit to my Mum, I knew I just had to share it with all the crafters who are NOT in the UK and may well have never seen such icy delights for their 4-legged friends. I even spotted WINE for dogs in a pet shop. We certainly have nothing like that for dogs here. Im on designer discount as you are reading this so please feel free to make the most of my generosity and for all you dog lovers out there, a couple of my doggy offerings that I hope will also make you smile. Have a good week and ENJOY !

South Landing by Carol Clarke

Weve been on a lovely holiday to Flamborough. Its a perfect base for walking and birdwatching etc. We have walked many many miles! Lol Bempton Cliffs RSPB is just a few miles up the coast along the coastal path which enjoys panoramic views over the many cliffs, caves and coves. The Gannet colony there that nest in the cliffs is the only mainland one. They dont half make a noise though and the smell from the guano is rather whiffy! Lol This photo is from South Landing where we saw Shags and Oyster Catchers. Wed walked there on a rather blustery day but had a nice hot choc in the saliva centre there to warm us up, lol

Beautiful Display by Joan King

We have just left winter and are now into Spring which is a time of year that can be very much up and down weather wise. I have had the most beautiful display this year from my daisies. They have just taken off. There is not a lot of colour in the garden yet as most comes as we head towards summer. Mind you with our warmer temperatures that we are getting the gardens seem to be doing different things at different times of the year these days. I would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to all the crafters who have purchased my designs. I have had my best month since April 2016 and the month is not finished yet!!! You have all made beautiful cards which I have really enjoyed looking at and I appreciate your custom. Feel free to browse all of my designs on www.craftsuprint.com/joan-king/

Billy ..... again! by Sue Way

I know all my news stories seem to about Billy lately, but puppies take up a lot of your time, so not much else is happening around here lol Having a puppy is fun, exhausting, loving and time-consuming, but I love it! Getting a job done seems to take 3 times as long with a puppy helping or distracting you by doing something naughty or funny. This week he has managed to escape from his pen, when I am out, so hubby has had to make a lid for it to keep him safe. He is teething like a demon, so he has destroyed most of his teddies, but loves ice cubes which help to soothe his gums. I love our cuddlesin the morning, when hubby goes to work and he sneaks into bed with me. He will be five months old in a few days, so next week I will try to post another comparison picture .... if I can still pick him up! I love this picture of him asleep with his food dish. My end of month SALE is now on with 20% off of ALL my designs! http://www.craftsuprint.com/sue-way/?r=968387

Michael Jackson - The Legacy by Sandie Burchell

My Son, Steve, is currently touring Australia and New Zealand for 2 months with his Band, Michael Jackson - The Legacy. Although a lot of evenings are filled with sold out shows he is finding time to do some sightseeing during the day. Here he is at The Brisbane Botanic Gardens - Mt Coot-tha, Toowong, Queensland.
