Fifty Years On by Janyce Cotterill

Fifty years ago Civil Rights Activist and Baptist Minister, Martin Luther King Jr was awarded an honorary degree by Newcastle University. To commemorate his visit a statue was commissioned and unveiled a few months ago within the Universitys grounds. During his acceptance speech at the University he spoke of three urgent and grave problems facing the world. These three words are engraved at the bottom of the statue they are - War, Poverty and Racism. Unbeknown to everyone at that time this was to be Dr. Kings last public address outside the USA, as six months later he was assassinated. I visited this powerful statue recently and found it quite moving. The fight for social justice goes on. The statue was created by sculpture, Nigel Boonham. I am leaving you with a couple of my designs which fit in with the theme of this mailer. Thank you for your interest.

Having a pint with Lowry by Rachael Dunne

There is so much history in Manchester and even though I live here, Ive probably only seen a tiny fraction of it. Last weekend we decided to go on a bit of a tourist trail around some of the cities most historic buildings - which Im sure was actually just an excuse for my other half to drag me on a pub crawl! It was very interesting though and we even ended up having a pint with L. S. Lowry. I wonder if he had really been there the kind of conversation we might have had?

Thanks for taking a look at my new designs, I hope you enjoy making them as much as I did designing them xx

Goodbye Sweet Boy by Sue Way

A few weeks ago we sadly and heartbreakingly had to say goodbye to our darling Golden Retriever Alfie. I know a lot of you have followed his adventures in my news stories and on Facebook, so will know what a big part of our family and life he was. Our house feels so empty without his beautiful soft smiling face. He was such a good, happy boy, who loved us as much as he loved tennis balls and water. There isnt much more I can say except thank you for all the kind messages and support I have received. Our hearts are broken, sleep peacefully sweet boy http://www.craftsuprint.com/sue-way/?r=968387

1ST MAY THE FRENCH OFFER LILY OF THE VALLEY by Wanda Lipski

The tradition of offering lily of the valley (muguet) dates back to 1560 and Charles IX who, so says the legend, was offered the flower on the 1st May by his host at Saint-Paul-Trois-Château who had picked it in his garden. Enchanted by the gesture, the following year Charles offered the flower to all the ladies of his court and the tradition was soon adopted by all the French. Despite a blip during the revolution when such actions were frowned up, the tradition has remained and any person who has picked the flower from their gardens or the woods has the right to sell the flower on the street without a license or any form of legal authorisation ! I love this tradition and every 1st May offer a single stem to anyone I think can benefit from this good luck charm. The photo is of my stock and I spent a happy day offering the flower ... to a few friends, but mostly to all the old dears (read senior citizens) who regularly get a flying visit from me, just to make sure theyre OK. I made a lot of people smile that day. It may be a little late (I forgot to put up the photo last week) but I offer you this mark of my affection ... may it bring you happiness throughout the year. ENJOY!

Country Walk by Carol Clarke

My Hubby and I took advantage of our free day again this week to escape into Derbyshire and had a lovely walk around Pleasley Country park and alon the tracks and paths in the surrounding areas. My hubby is a birdwatcher and its a lovely area to spot birds. We saw lots of birds but we were pleased to spot red leg shank, yellowhammers, black cap, reed bunting and chiff chaff plus lots and lots of others. We rounded off our day by picking our youngest 2 grandchildren up from school, and of course stopping off at the park on the way home too. Below are 2 of my NEWEST Designs ... Watch out for more coming soon!

Birthday Boys by Vicki Avcin

Two of my grandsons celebrated their birthdays at the end of last month.Riley who turned 9 on the 24th April and Nathaniel hit double figures turning 10.Not hard to remember even though they live at opposite ends of the state. Nathaniels birthday is our ANZAC Day and we wondered when Riley was born ifhed also arrive on the same day but he couldnt wait that long. Each year for all my grandkids, I make cards in the theme of whatever they are interested in. This year Nathaniel is a mad Playstation 4 player and Riley is very interested in space. So what else could I make except a card in the shape of a PS4controller and a spaceman. I put Rileys face in the helmet and had him floating roundin space. We brought them both some fancy night vision goggles which they loved. Nathaniels mum said she wasnt sure which he loved the most…… the present or the card. She keeps all his cards displayed in a cabinet from previous years so its lovely to know that heloves Nannys cards.

This about Sums it Up by Janice McFarlane

Well I didnt expect to be sharing news about my grandson Alfie so soon, but as a very proud Nana I had to mention it. Alfie ad told his mummy he was getting an award at school, but he couldnt remember what for (typical). My daughter was invited to a special assembly at school, so she was as much in the dark as everyone else about these awards. Alfies name was called out and he went to collect his certificate from the head teacher. My daughter thought it must be for his reading, as he is very good at that, much to her amazement it wasnt for reading at all, it was for maths, particularly the good old fashioned Tens and Units (that brings back some memories lol). We are so proud of him, as it came as a complete surprise, as he was quite slow to learn to count early on because of a hearing problem he had. As you can see from his photo how happy he was. Well done Alfie!

stitching in the sun by Anne Lever

I was able to go into my back garden and do some cross stitching for the first time today. It is something i like to do when the sun is out, and i can sit out and enjoy it. I have finally got on top of my wild dandelion filled lawn, de-spidered the big garden brolly and got ready for the sunny spring that has finally arrived. Yes there was vodka in the glass (but dont tell anyone!)
