Art, Craft, and a Prophecy by Clare Walker

Take a look at the bridge in the photograph. When I saw those railings, I assumed they were made of wood. But get up close, and you realise that theyre actually made from metal, but metal that`s been cast in the form of twigs and branches. And that`s because this bridge forms part of Lloyd Park in Walthamstow, the family home of Victorian designer William Morris. We visited this week, and it`s stunning how much of the house and park reflect (or have been restored to reflect) his designs and ideas that nature, art and craft benefit everyone when they`re a bigger part of society. Most surprising of all though was a prediction he made. As a 19th century person, William Morris couldn`t have predicted the rise of computers and the internet. But apparently, he predicted a future in which technology of some sort would enable people to earn more easily from their art and craft projects. All of which got me thinking, he`d probably have approved of us all hanging out at CUP...

All my items are on 20% designer discount up to and including 30th September 2017. Add in the CUP CRAFTY discount code, and that will give you an additional 10% off...

WEDDINGS ... THE ORGANISTS VIEW by Wanda Lipski

Well, I did it. Not as well as I would have liked (I got a bit stressed right at the end) and the bride and her Dad fair raced up the aisle (as I had feared) but the brides father was happy ... with the music, not to get rid of his daughter. I promised you last week a photo of the wedding and here it is. This is the organists view of French wedding. The couple sit facing the assembly which means that I get a back view. OK, it was a pretty back view, but I dont exactly get to admire the bride. At least there is no problem about image rights !!! So with the wedding behind me, Ive had time for a little designing so here are two of my latest. I have a red Christmas phone and am intending to create some phones in more teenage girl friendly colours, so watch this space. ENJOY and have a good week.

Exercise Bike Fun! by Sue Way

I know the words exercise and fun shouldnt be in the same sentence, but when you are 9 and 6 years old and you get to play on one in the garden, it takes on a whole new meaning! I have had this bike for about a year, bought on a whim & never used, as its so rubbish! Cheap and not so cheerful. The girls completely ignored it the whole time it was in the house, but since we put it in the garden ready to be thrown away, they have suddenly decided its great and spend hours playing on it, taking it in turns to do a minute each. I hate throwing things away so it good to see it finally getting some use lol My SALE is on at the moment, so empty those wish lists & grab a bargain! http://www.craftsuprint.com/sue-way/?r=968387

Crocheting! Part 2! by Amy Perry

So following on from my last news of finally being able to make baby hats! My amazing husband drove me to my local wool shop, When we got there i found they had 5 massive cardboard boxes full of wool! I asked the manager what they were doing with the wool and they said it was left over stock, 50p a roll! As you can see i took as many as i could (and there where a lot more that i couldnt fit in the picture :P ) should keep me going for a while haaha

I was walking past the same hedge i walk past every day, and something caught my eye. I looked and saw about 20 large beautiful red admiral butterflies all over the hedge. They were in groups of two or three, and very close to me. Its a bit late in the season, but they looked like they had just hatched and were sunning themselves. My end of the month sale is on now until midnight on Saturday 30th September. 20% all my designs including all of my 134 bumper kits!

Little Artist by Carol Clarke

This week on our Cuddle and Giggle day outing we took 2 year old Austin out to Clumber Park (again) for our normal picnic, fun and games. Just as we were heading back to my car the heavens opened and boy ohh boyy did it rain! My windscreen wipers could hardly cope. It hadnt let up any by the time I was fetching 5 year old Olivia from school either so we both go a soaking and, of course, stopping at the park on the way home was out of the question. Sooo Olivia decided to do her 2nd best thing and drew this lovely picture .... of me!! lol Ive ben reliably informed by the Elves that its All Systems Go at the North Pole and Santa is getting ready for his Christmas Even Flight ... soooo Below are 2 of my NEWEST Christmas Cards ... Watch out for more coming soon!

Fire Season has begun. by Vicki Avcin

Our 2017/18 fire season has well and truly begun. Sunday 10th Sept crews from our station headed out early to do a Hazard Reduction Burn at Kingfisher Resort. We were on the first barge over in the morning with 2 vehicles to head over to our station at Kingfisher Resort . (Our brigade has a station on the mainland and one on Fraser Island) Our plan was to do the HRB as soon as we could and make sure it was safe before leaving it in the hands of the Grounds staff at Kingfisher. We lit up around 7.30am and by midday it was safe enough to hand over. We headed down to get some lunch before getting the 2pm barge back to the mainland. Great, we thought, that all went well and we looked forward to a relaxing 45min trip back to the mainland. The First Officer called Firecom (our communications centre) to let them know our movements and was then asked if when the crews got off the barge they could head straight out to Eli Creek as there was a going fire and they needed crews. So our trip back to the mainland was spent reorganising trucks and crews for all vehicles to head out and watching the smoke plume grow.On landing we headed to the station, recommissioned the trucks with drinking water and changed crews and headed out. We were met with a very smokey, fastmoving fire and were tasked to go to the western side and start backburning. Backburning means burning out fuel ahead of the main fire so (the idea is) once the firefront hits the burnt stuff it has nowhere to go. This fire had other ideas and started new fires with spotting. Our mission was successful overall though and we headed home around 9pm that night. Then Monday 11th Sept saw us called out at 1.30pm to a fire at Burrum Heads. We knew straight away we were going to have to work hard as previous fires in years past have always meant fires in the area, due to the vegetation type, have been challenging. We werent wrong! Fire on both sides of the main road, dozens of houses in the direct line of the fire and almost 12 months of no substantial rain in that kind of vegetation meant a long shift ahead. Around 700 hectares were burnt and we finished up and handed over to the night crew around 11pm that night. Fantastic effort by the crews out there as there was no loss of structures and no injuries to anyone. So our fire season has begun………. Only another 8 months to go and with the driest last summer and winter weve had for many years, high fuel loadings, and above average temps and below average rainfall forecast its going to be a long one!

Lisbon by Carol Dunne

We have just returned from a fabulous week in Lisbon , Portugal, what a lovely city. Lots to see and do. We stayed just outside Lisbon down the river in a riverside town called Cascais. Lots of lovely restaurants. The train makes frequent journeys into Lisbon so we spent some time exploring the city on the old fashioned trams and the open top buses. You can see my husband in the photo with an old tower, this is one of the sites along the river. Definitely on my go back list.

Homecoming by Diane Hannah

Pictured are my twin granddaughter, Riley, and grandson Dawson. My daughter-in-law is in the middle. Homecoming is a big tradition in the south, and with this being their first year of high school, its also a must to participate! As you can see from the look on their faces, they were willing participants. They are both very involved in school, and after school activities. We are wishing them both a productive and fun school year. Love you all!
