The Stained-Glass Maker by Janyce Cotterill

On visiting a local cafe and visitor centre recently I saw an interesting plaque giving a brief history of the building. The Gothic style mansion in this photo had once been lived in by a famous stained-glass maker, William Wailes. I then went on to read up more and found out in 1851 his business was so successful he was employing 76 people. His stained-glass can be seen in churches and cathedrals throughout the uk and is known by rich reds and bold colours. Although I have probably viewed some of his work many times over, having read up on Williams life, I then had to go and hunt some windows down, here are a couple I found. It has been fascinating to learn more about this man, his family, his working life and of course his windows! I have been asked recently for more designs in my Sometimes.....range of sheets, so here are a couple I have recently finished. I hope you like them, thank you for your interest.

A Squirrelly Mob by Clare Walker

It was our own fault. My husband and I were the ones who went to Charlton Park, carrying hazelnuts. With the full intention of feeding the squirrels...What we didnt necessarily expect was to have 10 squirrels (yes, you read that right) all coming up to us for nuts *at the same time*. (Some were even playing a little game to see how many nuts they could stuff into their mouths at one time). But how can you deny nuts to such cuties, especially when summer is actually their hungriest time? Winter stores have long run out, they no longer have any spring sap or shoots, and the autumn bonanza of berries , nuts and acorns has yet to kick in.So we were delighted to feed them, if a little overwhelmed. And feed them we did...until the nuts ran out, forcing us to beat a hasty retreat. As we got into the car, I noticed someone else with a rustling bag go and sit on the bench nearest the squirrelly mob. They sure know their business, those squirrels...

Squirrels prefer hazelnuts, but do you think they might take the seeds from these poppies and sunflower at a push? Fortunately, they are currently only available for humans to buy, so if you like them, why not give them a go?

Little and Large by Janice McFarlane

My grandsons Alfie and Harry are definitely bonding, Alfie being big brother and of course Harry the little one, although at the rate Harry is growing I think he will be the Big Little Brother eventually. Alfie had been having a bit of a hard time at school, coping with leaving his mummy and Harry at home, but after much reassurance from Mummy that she wasnt doing anything with Harry or going anywhere with Harry and leaving out Alfie he relaxed. Now it is the school holidays Alfie is enjoying his time at home, although it is only the first week of the summer holidays, he is driving his mummy up the wall. Harry is non the wiser and sleeps peacefully through it all. Alfie has reassured me when I recently talked to him that he was helping mummy with Harry, but was adamant that he would not be washing his bum or changing his nappies. I think my daughter would be relieved at this news. Just hope she survives the summer holidays, how we managed it I really dont know.

Another selection of my latest kits, more designer resources Christmas Clipart and Hanging Baubles Trios in my store. www.craftsuprint.com/janice-mcfarlane. More new kits added each week. Thank you for looking.

Hey Nana ... by Carol Clarke

Im up here! I fetch five year old Olivia from school most weeks and each week without fail she asks if we can stop at the park on the way home. And this week was no different! She sooo loves stopping there but sadly not many children are so lucky and even though we see them walking by they arent able to convince their parents to stop there for a while.

Chinese New Year at the

Bellagio Hotel 2017 by Silvia Griffin

Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival in modern China, is an important Chinese festival celebrated at the turn of the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar. Celebrations traditionally run from the evening preceding the first day, to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first calendar month. The first day of the New Year falls on the new moon between 21 Jan and 20 Feb. In 2017, the first day of the Chinese New Year was on Saturday, 28 January, initiating the year of the Rooster. The New Year festival is centuries old and gains significance because of several myths and customs. Traditionally, the festival was a time to honor deities as well as ancestors.Chinese New Year is celebrated in countries and territories with significant Chinese populations, including Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore,[6] Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Mauritius, Australia, and the Philippines.Within China, regional customs and traditions concerning the celebration of the Chinese New Year vary widely. Often, the evening preceding Chinese New Years Day is an occasion for Chinese families to gather for the annual reunion dinner. It is also traditional for every family to thoroughly clean the house, in order to sweep away any ill-fortune and to make way for incoming good luck. Windows and doors are decorated with red color paper-cuts and couplets with popular themes of good fortune or happiness, wealth, and longevity. Other activities include lighting firecrackers and giving money in red paper envelopes. In about one third of the Mainland population, or 500 million Northerners, dumplings (especially those of vegetarian fillings) feature prominently in the meals celebrating the festival.

Last Summer Party by Diane Hannah

Hi everyone! Well here in the south in Ga. USA, summer is winding down. School will begin in just a few short days. Seems summer was just beginning. Pictured is my sweet granddaughter Caitlyn, She is at a party at the home of one of her friends. I wish I could have been there, what a beautiful place. That pool is just amazing. As you can see from the smile on her face, she was having a great time. She has three siblings, and none of them are ready to head back to school. They want summer to last just a little bit longer...sorry kids, its time to get back on the school bus, learn, and do that dreaded homework.
