Gardening Scotland Gold Medal by Janyce Cotterill

We came across this wonderful exhibit whilst on our mini-break in Scotland recently. The colours were spectacular and it was understandable why this exhibit, by Law Primary School, was given a gold medal by the Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society Gardening Scotland in a recent show. As well as being pleasing to the eye it also highlighted how important it is that we encourage bees into our garden by planting flowers that they love. Single blooms such as dahlias are often popular along with foxgloves, buddleia to name just a few. Bees are on the decline, we need them for pollinating plants and in doing so they keep the cycle of food producing plants going. So if you sit out in your garden and see lots of bees you can give yourself a huge pat on the back for doing your bit to save this very important insect ! Perfect Fit by Janice McFarlane

This is Felix, one of my cats, snoozing in one of his favourite places - my computer chair. Rather than curling in a ball he likes to take on the shape of my chair, its a perfect fit. Felix is quite old, he is 21 but still bounces around like a kitten, he has a lovely nature and if he could talk I am sure he would. He is one of those cats who enjoys being fussed, and when he wants feeding he lets you know by sitting on your knee and gently tapping you on the face. He is definitely the alpha male as Bailey our other cat isnt a year old yet. He is a Ragdoll breed and very gentle, but Felix lets him know who is boss. Bailey doesnt go out he is a house cat, but Felix does and is certainly the coolest cat on the street despite his age.

Fourth of July Fun by Diane Hannah

My granddaughter at her favorite place for the Fourth of July. This child loves the beach, and this year she got to spend the holiday at Myrtle Beach, in South Carolina. Endless days of swimming, hanging out with friends, and playing in the sand. Here she is with her face painted, waving her very little flag, and holding a cupcake. Picture first, then cupcake eating. She also got to play with sparklers, and watch the elaborate fireworks display. Now she is enjoying her last few days at the beach, before its back to reality...

Night Sky Petunias by Anne Lever

A month or so ago I found the most beautiful petunia at my local market. It is called the Night Sky petunia. It is deep purple and white, and has a pattern on the petals that looks exactly like the night sky. In the photo they look bright blue, but apparently my phone cant do purple! When I bought it, it was a small plant with one flower on it, now it has grown and is enormous! It has about 30 flowers at the moment, and still seems to be expanding! It has since become quite popular, trending on instagram and facebook, but when I saw it in a corner in my local market, I bought it because I had never seen anything quite like it before.

Little Artist!! by Carol Clarke

Five year old Olivia is showing some definite artistic tendencies. She, like other children, loves to draw and colour but this week she took it to a whole new level. She has always been fascinated by stones and Ive often come home with a pocketful of precious stone that shes given me to save for her. So its no surprise that she plays with the stones in the garden but I was totally amazed when she turned the gravel outside her door into this stunning piece of contemporary artwork worthy of a place in the Tate Gallery. Needless to say its a self portrait!

More Parching by Sue Way

I havent done any parchment in the last few weeks as gardening has taken over as my summer past time. But I always take it away in the caravan with me, in case we get a dull day. I won a couple of Groovi boards on eBay the other day, which are plastic patterns, that makes tracing simple, so I cant wait to give those a try. Although I do like tracing, its fun to try something new. This is the last card I made & it was for my daughter in laws birthday. I even parched a greeting for the insert. Fishing for Crabs! by Valerie Dawes

These guys were very intent on their hobby - catching crabs at the quayside in Muddeford in Dorset. As you can see by the uncharacteristic blue skies and sea, it was a beautiful day and I have to admit that I did find it all quite fascinating. The great thing about it too is that at the end of the day, the little crabs are all released back into the sea, so theyve had a look at the world above - not too mention a good feed on the delicious bait! - and the crabbers have had a fun time in the sunshine.

Week 2 by Tina Fitch

And now we have full uniform and doesnt she looked fantastic.. This week has been full of studying and exams and she has passed every one so far.. Talk about proud Mum moment... She did the pretend ditching this week too and had to blow up her life jacket and get into the huge raft on her own.. She managed to do that no problem even though she thought she could never do it. This week also saw her going into smoke filled plane and getting everyone off.. Not sure I could do that but Amber did.Next week will be her third week with only 3 to go before coming fully qualified, She also gets her rota next week so will knw her first ever flight as an attendant!Dont miss next weeks story!

Piano Rock by Vicki Avcin

If you read last weeks newsletter, youll remember I told you about how I went up Mt Tamborine for lunch at St Bernards Hotel. Mt Tamborine is a beautiful country drive very popular as a Sunday drive for many in SE Queensland. Tamborine Mountain is located in the picturesque hinterland only an hour from Brisbane and the Gold Coast. The tropical rainforests are populated with distinctive, brilliantly colourful, exotic birds and many interesting variations of flora and fauna.It is known for its vineyards and winerys, arts and crafts shops and variety of eaterys , National Walking Tracks, Glider Zone (where people jump off the side of the mountain and paraglide over the hinterland), art gallerys and antique shops as well as its spectacular views with the Gold Coast visible on clear days. But driving down towards Tamborine Village on the way to Beenleigh, there is one unique and quirky rock…. known as Piano Rock. About half way down the mountain there is a black rock with its peculiar shape that stunningly resembles a piano. Someone realised this and painted the rock about 50 years ago to look like a piano. It is a mystery as to who originally painted the rock but since then, it has been kept painted with someone refreshing it every few years. When we saw it on the Sunday it had an addition, someone has placed a white candelabra on the top of the piano. (Photo although sorry its not better quality but we were in the car and there is no where to stop n the narrow road down the mountain). This baffling mystery has had people talking for years as the person or persons are unknown and I guess that is half the excitement in looking for it as one meanders down the narrow winding road.
