We Found A Rose Garden...

One of the unforeseen benefits of lockdown, for us, has been getting to know our immediate locality better. And as we gradually expand back out of it again, these newly-familiar places still have some surprises in store.

For example, we knew that one of our local public gardens had benches, and looks lovely in the spring and autumn. But it was only through finding a bench on which to drink tea from a flask (isn`t it strange what becomes exciting?) that we discovered it also has none other than a small hidden rose-garden.

These roses may have wilted a little in the heat, but their perfume, as well as the joy of finding them, seemed magical.

Fluffy Eggs...

It`s taken over 20 years of trying. 20 years in which I`ve got to grips with cakes, crepes, soups, stews, and even, on a good day, bread.

But truly fluffy, melt-in-your mouth scrambled eggs always eluded me. Until this week (and time in lock-down to get them right).

In case you`re wondering, the difference that made the difference appeared to be...beating them in a wide-topped glass bowl, like the one in the picture.

As lock-down wins go, it was tiny, but delicious. Happy weekend, everyone.

Who Could Have Guessed...

See the stunning tulips in this photo? It absolutely made my day to come across them on another of those permitted local walks. As it happened, I was able to thank the lady who planted them (from a safe distance of course :-) ).

Unsurprisingly, she`s apparently had lots of compliments for her beautiful flowers. And as she said, Who could have guessed, when I planted those bulbs last autumn, that they would be so important to people now?It made me realise just how much even our seemingly smallest actions can affect others.

On the other hand, it`s good to know that everything counts, and that small but positive actions really *can* make a huge difference.

Stay safe and happy as you can. x

Bluebells And Lily-of-the-Valley

Highlights of the week are a bit different these days. I had been missing the chance to visit a bluebell wood.

But then (within just the radius of an exercise walk), I found these bluebells and lily-of-the-valley, even though were only about 4 miles from the very centre of London...And Im fairly certain I`ve never seen them at the end of that (very residential)street before.

Seems that some silver linings exist, even in this situation. Stay safe and well, everyone x

Feeling Thankful...

There have been just so many reasons to feel thankful this week.

From the recovery of loved ones (from mercifully mild symptoms) to being so happy and grateful that CUP exists and has kept running...To thanks for the gardening efforts of our neighbours, whose beautiful blossom tree you see in this photo...And thank you to everyone taking the time to read this, and to support designers here, when so much else is happening.

Take care of yourselves, and have the happiest Easter you possibly can. x
