Marriage Steeped In Scottish History

Until recently, I had no idea that my roots were in Scotland. For 60 years I didn?t know anything of my ancestry. Thanks to Ancestry.com, after 20 years of research I found the proof for which I had been searching; my grandmother was from Russia.

Here is a synopsis of what I discovered. My paternal great-grandmother, was a Forsyth. I traced her back to Osberth Forsyth, the Military Leader for King Robert the Bruce during the Battle of Bannockburn!

Yes, I realize that ?Braveheart? was not entirely accurate.

I did a lot more research and learned many, many things of which I am both amazed and proud! My husband always knew he was related to Mary Queen of Scots, according to the documentation his family had acquired. I decided to trace him on the same site and found out that his 27th great grand-father was King Robert the Bruce - his daughter married a Stewart, and down the line to Queen Mary. 680 years later we married, not knowing our great-grandfathers were great friends and comrades!

I think they would have approved the match! I?ve attached a photo of Stirling Castle, since that is where their lives were so entwined. I love knowing about my ancestestors, and will be using their tartans in more artwork!

700 Years Later...

I decided to research my husband's and my ancestry on ancestry.com. I knew that my husband was a direct descendent of Mary Queen of Scots, and that I was Russian descent.

Our families have resided in the United States for generations. After weeks of searching, I discovered that my great grandfather (27x ago) was William Forsyth, 1st Governor of Stirling Castle and the Military Leader for Robert the Bruce during the Bannockburn battle.

Upon more research, I discovered that my husband was not only related to Mary Queen of Scots, but that Robert the Bruce was his great grandfather (27x ago)!! One day we hope to visit Stirling Castle, the home of our ancestors.

I have discovered posers as pictured here, cup651340_2049, and am fascinated to see how they are used in greeting cards.
