News & Updates from Vicki Avcin ~ AusCrafts · Page 94

Been a busy year both on and off CUP in 2012. October saw my stepson and his lovely lady Jess get married.
The wedding was held at Moffatt Beach on the Sunshine Coast (Queensland Australia).
The day definately lived up to being the Sunshine Coast as you can see by the photo of the happy couple.
Originally they were to be married in Fiji but there were some issues with the kids mother (Brads ex) allowing them out of the country, so instead of the day being the engagement party that night, Brad and Jess decided to arrange at the last minute their wedding for the morning.
Was only family and very close friends promising to not say a word, turning up for the wedding at 9am on the beach.
Then it was back to Brisbane for the evenings 'engagement party' which turned out to be their wedding reception!!
Was a fabulous day and all went off well. And of course....guess who made all the invitations and other items needed for the occassion!!

Well another year is almost gone and another about to begin! This year has flown by so quickly!
Firstly I'd like to say Thank You to everyone who has purchased my items this year, and Thank You to the cardmakers who have done a brilliant job making them up! Its going to be a quiet Christmas for my hubby and I this year, but the New Year will start off well with 2 of the grandkids here for a week, then my daughter and her partner will be staying for a few days as they begin their holidays up the coast to Cairns.
They'll also stay a night on the way back. But just because we'll have no one here doesn't mean I've not been busy. I've made up these cute little sleighs to put in their parcels, which we've posted away. Don't they look great?
But hard to make when the temp is mid 30's deg C and they are chocolates! All were posted with notes to refrigerate immediately on delivery! Anyway, to everyone at CUP, all the cardmakers, crafters and customers, have a safe and peaceful Christmas and a fabulous 2013!

As some of you will know I come from Australia. There are designers and cardmakers at CUP also from Australia, but we don't all get to meet up as we are spread all over Australia. Saturday morning I was just sitting here reading my emails and the phone rang.
Hubby answered it and said 'its a lady but I dont know who'. So I took the phone and a lady says 'I saw you in the CUP mailer and you live not far from me'. We got to chatting and had lots to talk about.
She said it was so great to find someone nearby that had the same interests and CUP in common!! Josie, you sound like a wonderful lady, and one day hopefully we'll meet face to face and have a cuppa!!! Thank you for making my Saturday and ringing.
I loved our chat!!

Recently we had the Firefighter Championships here in Hervey Bay.
Setting was the lovely Seafront Oval where 21 Teams from Queensland and NSW battled it out to be the Champion Team. I was involved as a track worker for the 2 days of the competition and the previous 2 days to that for the setting up and the Expo associated with the Championships. I was with a team of people who were responsible for rerolling of hoses after events and making sure that there were hoses and equipment for the events to come so that there was no delay in running events.
I believe we rolled over 400 hoses over the 2 days of the competition!!! On the Saturday night there was a dinner where the Champion teams and Champion firefighter were presented with their awards.
Was a very busy and hectic 4 days but I had so much fun and met many firefighters from throughout Queensland and interstate.
This is a photo of my husband and I at the Dinner. Taken with a phone so sorry about the quality.

Schools back here in Australia now after 2 weeks holidays which included Easter. I had a wonderful time with Zoe and Zac but we didn?t get to do a CUP TV this time unfortunately.
But there is one thing we did do each day?..feed the Rainbow lorikeets!
Here is a photo of Zoe taken feeding some of the birds in our back yard. Crafty Bob would?ve loved being here with Zoe feeding the lorikeets that come in each afternoon for feeding.
Usually there is around 50 or more!!! They are extremely friendly and eat right out of our hands.
These birds are a big attraction at Australia?s Currumbin Bird Sanctuary, where thousands turn up to be fed twice a day, and to think we get to feed them for free right in our own back yard. These birds are parrots and native to Australia but are also found in eastern Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.
They are found predominately along the eastern coast but can be found as far as South Australia. They are a medium size parrot around 25 to 30 cm (9 to 11 inches) and usually are seen in pairs.
They eat fruit, pollen and nectar, but occasionally we feed a piece of bread when we want to take a picture.
We make up a special feed for them each day though. Its no wonder I love including Australian fauna (and fauna) in some of my designs here on CUP.
