News & Updates from Vicki Avcin ~ AusCrafts · Page 88

Well it was Mothers Day a couple of Sundays ago and my daughter told me about four weeks ago that I was getting a parcel in the post.
She told me shed spent the day wrapping it and was posting it in good time to arrive.
Sure enough the postie turned up the following week, a nice heavy rectangular box. I said to the postie that it was from my daughter and he reckoned it was an iron! Why an iron? I asked him. Well he said, Right size, about the right weight and Woolworths had them on special last week!. I told him I dont need another iron!
But for the next few days he kept saying Bet its an iron. Well my daughter came up from Brisbane on the Friday for a quick visit but I wasnt allowed to open my present till the Sunday morning.
I tried saying it would be nice to open it while she was there but she insisted it had to be opened on Sunday morning!
Well I was dying to know what it was but that didnt work. So Sunday morning arrived, Mothers Day, and I get to open it.
I opened the card from my son first (she brought that up with her) and along with the lovely card, there was a gift card in it.
So then on to the present. Beautifully wrapped, card on the outside, and I am pleased to say it is not an iron. It was a beautiful crystal Vase. Marquis by Waterford, 9 inch vase. How awesome, I love crystal, and I didnt have a lovely big vase.
Ive only got smaller ones that usually dont fit a full bunch of flowers in it. I am so happy it survived the postal service and arrived in one piece. So then the dilemma…… I had no flowers to put in it, garden was not flowering.
So hubby went out and came back with a pretty bunch of flowers, which was lucky because usually shops sell out the day before.
So the photo is of my beautiful vase and the flowers to put in it.

Well normally on Mothers Day most Mums look forward to a nice breakfast served to them by hubby and the kids.
Sunday 8th May here in Australia was our Mothers Day.
I dont live close to our kids and am always up before hubby, so no breakfast in bed, but I do look forward to an early morning text message from the kids and grandkids and then usually a phone call later in the day.
I had my daughter here Friday night and had her present and she also brought up something from my son, neither of which I was told not to open before Sunday.
Well I didnt get a text from the son, but go on Facebook and found out why.
There is an 8km Fun Run held in Brisbane (and around Australia) beginning at 7.30am each Mothers Day called The Mothers Day Classic.
It is put on here at Southbank parklands, by Women in Super (WIS) which is a national advocacy and networking group for women employed in the superannuation and financial services industries, to raise funds for Breast Cancer Research.
Im so proud of my son and daughter-in-law and their 2 kids/my grandkids. They selfishly gave up a nice sleep in and breakfast to go and do this Fun Run. Of course Fun Runs are meant to be that…….. fun so dressing up is order of the day.
I might dispute that any running at my age is fun but for the younger ones, well done to them!!
They all completed the 8klm run (and/or walk), and as the colour for Breast Cancer is pink, they made sure they obliged as the picture shows.
They all had a great time, so well done to them all. I think my son wears a tutu rather well too….. dont you?
Goes so well with the black boardies underneath!!

We live on a rural block, 10 acres, and in all the time weve been here we get a big variety of wildlife.
Every day we feed a variety of birds that come down waiting for dinner.
But we have always had Kangaroos visiting at all hours of the day and night. Usually they will come in anytime from 3pm in the afternoon and we see them grazing down the back paddock.
As sundown gets closer they will move closer up to the house. Early morning they are usually outside our front or back doors.
There has always been around 5 or 6 that seem to stick together but weve also had anything up to 24 at a time.
We watched last year as one female had a joey (a baby) in her pouch, saw it grow to the point where you could see this cute little face sticking out and then big enough to start grazing from the comfort of Mums pouch.
He then was big enough to leave and follow Mum and Dad around. I suspected there would be another joey this year as weve had a little bit of rain which kept the grass green and lets just say Dad loved the female!
Kangaroos have the ability to carry a joey inside their body until the first joey leaves the pouch.
They will mate a few days after giving birth and the new joey will enter a dormant state until the first joey leaves the pouch.
After 30days gestation the second joey will enter the world and crawl up to the pouch. They are amazing how the joey survives. They are not tame enough that we can touch them….. should see the size of their claws…… but they also know us and dont jump away.
Usually they look up… oh its just you…. and keep feeding. Wouldnt want to mess with big Daddy….. hes huge and powerful. This photo shows, Dad on the right, Mum in the middle (you can just see her sagging pouch) and the last joey, all grown up now grazing in our backyard around the clothesline

At a time in our lives that we swore we?d not have any more furbabies, we now do have a new little girl in our lives.
Sweet Little Georgia came to us weekend before last and will be with us for a while yet. Well what do you do when your granddaughter rings up in tears and asks Nanny and Poppy for a really really really big favour?
You can?t say ?No?. We had a very upset young lady asking that very question because where they were living (for the past 3 months already) decided they weren?t allowed to have pets.
Her Mum had been given 7 days to get rid of it.
I was like ?you even have to ask? Of course we?ll take her?. So Mum, Zoe and Zac drove up on the Saturday to bring the little kitty up.
Well she?s not so ?little? as she?s 4 years old. Things were very strange for Georgia ?.. a big car trip, then a strange house and ?those? smells. (Those smells were where she could smell our other 4 ?oldies? furbabies).
She spent most of the night hiding under the lounge. Bonus for us was that we got to see Zoe and Zac overnight too!! We?ve had Georgia for just on 2 weeks now and she?s the most gorgeous little girl.
Very quiet, very well trained to the litter tray and loves her food. The night after Zoe and Zac and Mum had gone, she decided that Zoes bed was going to be ?her? bed.
She made herself a little ?cave? out of the doona on the end of Zoe?s bed as you can see in the photo. At night she comes onto the end of our bed and watches TV with us and I mean that literally.
She sits at the end of the bed and really does watch TV intently! She doesn?t like our other kitties and will hiss at them but doesn?t attempt to swipe at them.
Our kitties are a little bewildered though because they want to be friends.
But it?s only two weeks so they have plenty of time yet to get to know each other as we will have her for nine months till the lease runs out on where they are living and can more to a pet friendly place. Sweet little Georgia has already made a place in our hearts and we are honoured that Zoe knows that she will be safe in our care while we have her. The items I am promoting are two of my insert packs.

Well last Saturday morning (26th March) Bella Rose entered the world. She weighed 7lb 12oz and arrived at 12.26am. Mum, Chiquita, had been induced a couple of days earlier but like all us women like doing?..running late?.. decided that she?d arrive when she was ready.
However she ended up being born by C Section and not of her own accord. This was Mum?s first bub but Dad, Jamie (our son) second.
Being school holidays here, Nathaniel was up staying with them and he was so excited about being a big brother.
He is almost prouder and happier than Mum and Dad!! Bella Rose has settled in to the outside world extremely well and is a very good baby.
The photo?s we?ve seen so far she looks like she?s got a smile on her face so seems like a perfect baby.
Eat and sleep is what all new Mums want and Chiquita certainly has got that (well so far!) I?m absolutely amazed by Mum, she is out and about already??? they get them out of hospital quick these days.
I was in for 14 days after my first son who was also a ?Ceaser? baby but Chiquita is looking amazing and getting around just fine after such a short time. Jamie is a fabulous Dad and Bella Rose is going to be a Daddys girl I think.
Nathaniel is being a great helper too and sits and gazes at her with the biggest smile on his face.
I wonder how long that will last? As when Nathaniel was born we didn?t get to see him for quite a while and I think sadly it will be a while before we can get up North to see her.
Meanwhile lots and lots of pictures being sent to keep us ?grandy?s? happy. Not quite the same as holding her but we will get to do that as soon as possible. This is grandchild number 8 for us so hoping that?s it for a while now.
Trying to remember birthdays is impossible but we make sure they are all written down. Think we?ll start the Christmas shopping now to spread the costs out. The cards I?m promoting are some of my recent designs.
