News & Updates from Vicki Avcin ~ AusCrafts · Page 64

8 years ago on 27th May 2011, I watched my daughter march onto the parade ground to take her oath and be handed her badge and become a police officer.
She worked hard to achieve a dream, and that day her dream became a reality.
Talk about happy tears, I think I cried through the whole ceremony and my heart was bursting with pride. It was wonderful to be there with the family to see her graduate. In the 8 years she has seen so much, done so much and achieved so much.
She has been awarded a Commissioner Achievement award for one incident on Boxing Day 2013 and is now out of uniform (in plain clothes) with the Child Protection Investigation Unit.
One more exam to go and she will be a Detective. I am happy with that as she is not a General Duties (first responder) officer now as policing is extremely hard and they dont know what they will be facing/subjected to when being first on scene at a job.
Her job now is stressful and demanding but shes not first on scene these days. She has worked hard and the pride and admiration I have for her carrying out her work grows every day.
There is a friendly rivalry here between the police and fire services, each saying which is the better job but from my side (fire) Id prefer to stay a firefighter…......
I think shed prefer her police job. So no rivalry there!

Look at these two little cuties. My grandchildren Bella and Clay. Just the photo I needed this morning to put a smile on my face…..how can you not smile at this photo.
And of course when you are playing with toys in your toybox, the toys are much better out of the box than in it.
Natural progression then is to climb into the toybox and play. Sure did need this gorgeous photo this morning after the horrendous few weeks weve had. They say things happen in 3s well someone got it wrong, very wrong. First thing was my 22yr old kitty crossed the rainbow bridge.
Then my sister in law passed away.Followed on by car needing new brakes, clothes dryer making the most awful noise and the centre bearing needing replacing.
Then the oven decided that it wouldnt heat up when on fan forced mode (so that still needs replacing).
My computer graphics card decided it then too would start making noises and freezing up (only part fixed waiting on a new fan) and then last Thursday night I had to call an ambulance to take hubby to hospital.
He has a bad lung infection and has been extremely ill. With having to wake every 3 hours to give him medication, I am severely sleep deprived but he is feeling a lot better now after antibiotics and some serious pain meds for a few days.
So needed lots of good stuff to brighten up my life and this photo of the grandbabies was the best tonic ever.
They live 1200 klms from us but a chat on the phone and photos like this really lifts the spirits. (Oh and their dad was in hospital last week for surgery to his hand after getting blood poisoning from a wound that he thought had healed up) But Im sure these two keep a smile on his face every day when he sees them.
Life has to get better lol

My husband is a sort of coin collector and is always on the hunt for that elusive coin or monetary note that might be worth a fortune.
Sadly hes still waiting to find them but it peaked my interest a little bit when here in Australia in 2012 the Royal Australian Mint released the first coloured $2 coin.
Each year they have released one or two for special occasions and I decided to hang onto any I got in change at the shops.
I especially like these two as they are for significant occasions and theyve been hard to find.
I guess everyone else likes pretty coins too and hang onto them when they get them as they are hard to find.
One with the poppy is to commemorate 100yrs of Armistice and the other is inspired by the Eternal Flame in the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.Do other countries do these coloured coins?

It was our grandson, Nathaniel birthday last week and his step mum made this cake for him. Chiquita has been doing cake decorating for about a year now and started off self teaching, but is now doing a cake icing course to learn the finer points of icing cakes.
His cake this year is a Fallout New Vegas (Playstation role play game) themed cake. Everything on it is edible. The cake is a 6inch cherry ripe mud cake with vanilla and chocolate butter cream. The toppers are handcrafted from fondant and the image is an edible image from Ilmondo. What a fantastic cake and Nathaniel loved it.

25th April is a day of remembrance and something that I always make sure I attend one of the many services where ever I am.
This year was no different getting up before dawn to attend and march in the service as a firefighter that is held in our local community.
Usually its a gunfire breakfast afterwards but this year there was no breakfast as I had to get home and change uniforms and get into town to meet up with our Emergency Service Cadets.
I am an Adult Leader with the Cadets and they always march in the main parade in town.
The marchers assemble in the carpark at the RSL and march down to a beautiful park we have in town called Freedom Park where the is a solemn service to remember all those from Australia and New Zealand who have given their lives so that we have the lifestyle we have now.
It is held each year on 25th April, the day the troops landed at Gallipoli in 1915. We also celebrate the lives and contribution of all our men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their countries in all wars to date.
It would be lovely to be able to say that conflicts like Afghanistan will be the last.It is always an honour to lay the wreath at our local Dawn service for the fire service and this year I also made the wreath for the Cadets to lay at the march service.
