These papier mâché eggs have many uses in craft, including for Easter displays and Easter baskets.
Steps
-
Assemble the supplies needed. These are listed below.
- Prepare the strips and glue. See How to make papier mâché for how to do this.
- Blow up the balloon into a small shape, about the size of an egg. Knot the end of it.
- Cover the small balloon with glue. Add three layers of paper strips to it. Also cover the knot, as this will form a nice pointy end just like an egg has.
- Let the egg balloon dry.
- Paint the egg. Use the tempera paints to paint a single color layer first. Let this paint layer dry first.
-
Add patterns to the eggs.
- For Easter: Use patterns such as lines, dots, squiggles, circles, squares, etc. that you'd normally see on Easter eggs.
- For simulation of real eggs: Paint for the type of bird your nest is for. Check a bird guide or online for realistic egg colors.
-
Finish the eggs. After the paint has dried, brush the egg with a clear varnish or spray with a clear acrylic finish. Let dry before using.
