Simple, really - how to make a basic origami snail out of origami paper, or any paper you have lying around (a great way to recycle paper). And this snail only takes about a minute!
Note: Origami purists don't use scissors but this snail needs one small cut at the end.
Steps
-
Start off with a piece of square paper. You can tell if the paper is square by folding it in half diagonally. If you have any excess on one side, trim it off.
-
If you're using patterned paper, place the patterned side down, and fold it in halfto make a triangle. This ensures that your pattern will end up on the outside.
-
Open up the folded piece. Fold one end to meet the line in the centre.
-
Fold the other end to meet the line in the centre.
-
Then, fold the left side to meet the centre, and do the same for the other side.
-
Make a fold. Fold approximately where the dotted line is shown in this image.
-
Fold it back on itself, like so. This makes the tail.
-
Fold the paper in half.
-
Make a crease in the front half, as shown in the image. Use this crease to help you push the front up into the centre of the snail.
-
Line up the two sides at the front. Make a matching crease in the other side, so that you can lay it flat.
-
Cut a little slit at the top. Fold one side down jauntily to make the eye stalks.
-
Admire your handiwork. Draw a spiral design for the shell. Discerning snail fans will notice the spiral in this photo is drawn the wrong way - artistic licence!
Warnings
- If you use a scalpel for the slit part, do be careful. Likewise with scissors.
Things You'll Need
