Kids love slime! It's fun, sticky, gooey, and very messy. The following are instructions on how to make green slime, the most common and favored color.

Steps

  1. Make a "stock solution" using flour. Mix the borax in a quart jar filled with water, until no more borax dissolves.
  2. Mix the water and glue together until you have a watery, cohesive solution.
  3. Add green food coloring to the watery glue mixture. Or you can add the food coloring to small bits, chunks, batches, etc. of slime as you mix the glue solution into the borax solution.
  4. Stir the borax solution into the watery craft glue, and then watch the slime take shape.
  5. Finished.

Tips

  • The recipe can be changed by varying the percentage of the ingredients used. For example, if 2 parts borax solution are used, the slime that forms is "harder" and not as gooey.
  • "Slime" is best enjoyed on the day of creation. The slime will gather foam, dust and particles that make it an annoyance to keep for longer periods. However, if you want to store it, label it to avoid any confusion as to what it is and keep in a cool place such as a fridge or freezer. (see "Warnings").
  • Elmer's glue is a suitable brand of glue. It is generally known as poly(vinyl acetate).

Warnings

  • Borax is poisonous if it is swallowed. Do not eat and do not allow children to do this. Please follow the instructions responsibly.
  • Glue should not be eaten or sniffed.

Things You'll Need

  • Glue (Elmer's works best)
  • Water
  • Borax solution
  • Green food coloring (or another color if you desire)
