Making metal castings can be fun and well worth it if you know the right stuff. If you do not have a foundry to cast metal you can look at How to Make a Foundry.
Steps

Light a fire in your foundry. To do this twist up old sheets of newspaper, light them and shovel on your coal.
- Wait until your coal is hot. When this happens add small amounts of coal into the flames.
- When coal is hot insert crucible. If you're a newbie, try melting tin because it has a fairly low melting point.
- Maintain your metal. If you are not melting aluminum or silver, skip this step. For silver, as the metal melts sprinkle borax powder into it. For aluminum, add salt. The reason for this is that it makes the metals flow.
- When metal is molten, begin pouring. Carefully pour your metal into a mold and pour any excess into ingots.

Wait at least 12 hours. Then take your finished and polish it.
