Do you want to make a creative, beautiful checkerboard? Whether you want to play games with it, use it as a decoration, or send it as a gift, here are some general tips, hints, and directions to guide you to make a candy-wrapper checkerboard.
Steps
-
Remove the candy wrappers from the candy. It's recommended to use chocolate wrappers, as they are the best to use on this type of project. Be careful not to tear the wrappers as you remove them.
- Carefully flatten the wrappers and smooth them out. The foil wrappers will be smooth and in perfect squares.
- Attach the wrappers to the fiberboard.
The Tape Method
- Lay out your wrappers in the order you want them to go in. Remember, you want the colors to match up with a checkerboard (i.e. black, white, black, white, and so on).
- Stick double-stick tape to the back of each wrapper. You want one strip at the top of the wrapper and one strip at the bottom. It should look almost like you are outlining the back of the foil (not the colored side) in tape.
- Carefully stick the foil, colored side up, on the fiberboard. The edges of the foil should be in perfect alignment with the edges of the fiberboard.
- Continue the process until the checkerboard is complete.
The Glue Method
-
This method is almost the same as the method above, but you have to be extremely careful to not move the foil around after the glue touches the fiberboard. The glue method is a little more messy, so be careful!
Things You'll Need
- Fiber Board (you will need a checker-board sized piece; it will need to be square and flat. It's recommended to use 1/4 inch for thickness and about 12 inches each side.
- 2 different colors of candy wrappers.
- Glue. It's recommended to use Elmer's glue or double-stick tape.
