How to Faux Finish a Wall for a Spanish, Mediterranean, or Southwestern Look

If you have been trying to faux finish one of your bathroom, or any room of your house, you might be interested in the following tips.

1. Remove wallpaper from walls, and prepare the walls for painting.
2. Tape the areas that you don't want painted with blue painters tape.
3. Mix up two different shades of powdered joint compound and paint. One should be a shade darker than you want on the wall and one should be a shade lighter. They should have the consistency of creamy mashed potatoes.
4. Use the masonry trowel to work the lighter compound onto the wall.
5. Use a lot of pressure for a smooth look and very little pressure for areas where you want a streak of stucco.
6. Make sure the wall looks smooth and blended- blend the edges together whenever you stop and start.
7. Add other textures depending on how you want your wall to look. For example, you can use broom bristles to create a cool look.
8. Add the darker color to the wall with the trowel.
9. Work on small areas at a time to give the wall slightly different shades of the same color.
