My husband and I went to Dover for a break. Not long after our arrival I looked over to the next building. I couldnt believe my eyes. There was something on the roof and at first glance I thought it was a hedgehog. I walked closer to have a better look and saw there were 3 very cute seagull chicks. They were like bundles of fluff. Of course they were much bigger than the swan babies we are used to seeing. There also had speckled heads to help with camoflarge. They would be easily lifted off the roof by a hungry bigger bird.Talking of seagulls, they can be so nasty. While we was out walking our dog, a seagull took a disliking to her. It starting diving at her turning in the air to have another go. I run over to protect her but it didnt stop the bird. It still kept swooping down at her even though I was now there trying to shoo it away. My dog ran off cause she was scared and we lost sight of the bird. It seemed to have lost us too, thank goodness.

MY DATURA by Wanda Lipski

My Datura, purchased 3 years ago has had a checkered history. It was literally decimated 2 summers ago by a hail storm that made national news - tennis ball sized stones rained down on us and left me with an artistic arrangement of green twigs. Refusing to give up on my plant I loved it and last summer it produced a handful of tiny leaves, but not a flower in sight. We brought it indoors over the winter (and still drag it inside any time hail is forecast) and it was happy in my conservatory. We only recently taken it back outside (it has been so cold and wet here in France) and since the sun came out a week ago, it has been thriving. So it was just asking to become a star ... I am delighted to share with you my/its first flower in two years.

Red hot poker seen in scotland by Judith Henry

We are on our way home from our vacation in Scotland. The flower gardens were beautiful especially the lupine and the red hot poker. We had good food, lovely rooms and gracious hosts. I looked for hand made cards and specialty paper. I was surprised at the lack of popup cards of castles and churches. Perhaps I will look into architectural designs. Meanwhile, enjoy my current collection.

Gate Guardian at RAF Wittering by Tina Fitch

Well this week saw us travelling to RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire .. To see the QRA Typhoon jets and how they roll on a day to day business.As we drove up the A1 we saw posts for RAF Wittering and with a sound RAF background we had to visit to see their Gate Guardian which was the Harrier GR9 Jet ..She was just poised there nicely looking out! The Harrier has been at Wittering since 1968 but unfortunately they no longer have a place in our skies.. they stopped flying in 2010... so The placement of a Harrier GR9 at the RAF Wittering gate is a fitting tribute to the sterling service given by the Harrier force over the years.After taking out photos and standing admiring the aircraft we continued our trip a little further to RAF Coningsby.. where I have to say we saw plenty of action by the Typhoons.. Rain, rain go away! by Sue Way

Well we have certainly had sunshine and showers lately in the UK lately. Along with some pretty heavy thunder storms. One minute I am sitting in the sun in my shorts, the next I am quickly shutting all the doors and windows as we have yet another downpour! But it doesnt stop out little rays of sunshine from smiling on their way to school. We took a little trip to brean sands to have a day out when the weather was nice (in Britain you have to strike when the sun is out could be a tsunami the next day!) we had a little wander on the beach then hit the fair ground, the boys went on rides and enjoyed ice creams was a really lovely family day out, then my youngest son Taylor spotted a astronaut! (he thought he was real who am I to ruin his moment haha) after plucking up the courage to go over and shake his hand we managed a quick picture! :D xx

Northern Ireland by Janet Roberts

My 87 year old Father in Law is always telling us stories about his childhood in Northern Ireland. So we thought it would be a nice idea to take him there for a few days for his birthday. He showed us where he was born, the church where he was baptised, his schools etc. We even managed to get inside his infant school classroom. Its now part of a hospital and the room is a day room. It was early evening and the caretaker we started talking to took us inside so we could take photos. We took lots of other photos of my Father in Law at all of his old haunts. He had a wonderful few days and we went home with lots of lovely memories. Here is a photo of him about to board the aeroplane in Belfast for our journey home

Conservation Ponies by Janyce Cotterill

When we take a break up the East Lothian coast, Scotland, we always call to the North Berwick Law to see the group of Exmoor ponies who have lived on the hill and grazed the land for the past few years. As a result of their grazing on this Site of Special Scientific Interest there has been an increase in the amount of insects, birds, wildflowers and butterflies as the area is no longer choked up with vegetation. The ponies are monitored regularly by a group of volunteers and local wildlife rangers who liaison with vets if required. Here are a few snapshots I took of two of the ponies, Gadget and Oberon, when I visited The Law a few weeks ago. I have in the past looked after wild hedgehogs and returned over 170 back to the wild. But I decided I should get an APH - African Pygmy Hedgehog, so that I would be able to tell the difference in these two types of animals. The APH is bred for the pet trade and lots of folks get them with out studying up about them. So I put word out in the hoggy community I would like to look after one. Soon afterwards Popcorn arrived. A family was unable to look after him properly so I took him on. I have had him now for going on 3 years. They dont live very long, only about 4 years or so. He is now reaching old age. I love him to bits, but I really dont recommend them as a pet unless you really do research their needs and about what it takes to look after them. This past week a post went up from a young man looking to have his hedgehog rehomed. Since we are cutting back on the amount of wilds I am taking in, I thought I could look after another APH. The lad who took on Brownie from his friend who moved, found out he was allergic to her. Luckily she had been handled properly and well loved even though she was causing him some distress. So last Friday I went to meet the train from London and pick up little Brownie. She is a lovely little thing and I am really excited about having her. Unlike my lad she doesnt mind being handled. Though she did have a bit of a hissy fit the other day when I went to clip her nails. They were a bit overgrown and starting to affect her feet. There is alot to looking after these little ones and my friends are now finding them Dumped. These little ones cant survive our weather and their food requirement is a bit different too. Being bred in captivity their immunities arent as good as our wild ones either. We had a report this week of one being found out side. Luckily it has found a rescue who knows what they are doing with them. :)

Pamper party! by Kelly Barker

You may have read a couple of weeks ago it was my eldest daughter Jessicas 8th birthday. Well on Saturday she finally had her party, she was so excited as she was having a pamper party at a local salon with 10 of her friends. The girls all had so much fun, they had mini facials, nails painted and hair done. While they were waiting for each of their turns they made their own entertainment pretending to wash and style each others hair and they had an impromptu game of slow motion duck duck goose! Which was very funny. Heres a pic of Jess enjoying her facial :) I am still on a bit of a pamper theme this week, here are two fabulous quick cards with colour variations available too.

Artist At Work by June Harrop

As a crafter i am always interested in all forms of art and design and anything creative. Another well know trait of crafters is that we dont like waste and try to use up every little piece of paper, ribbon, and anthing else we can get our hands on. On a recent visit to Dunham Massey i came across this transformation in the courtyard It had been beautifully carved all the way around with animals, insects and flowers. It just goes to show that what was once just an old dead tree stump had been lovingly transformed into a piece of art for people to enjoy.

Brodie Castle by Mary MacBean

Last weekend my daughter and I went for a walk in the grounds of Brodie Castle which is near Forres in Morayshire. The castle was the ancestral home of the chiefs of the Clan Brodie for many generations although it is now owned by the National Trust for Scotland. The castle sits on an estate of over 70 hectares which include some beautiful woodland walks, gardens and a huge pond. The weather was ideal for a long walk through the woods and around the pond. We particularly like to walk along the long driveway to the castle, imagining what it must have been like in times past when horse-drawn carriages would bring guests to stay. We didnt go into the castle this time, but plan to do that soon.
