How cute is this Little Penguin? My daughter and her partner have just had a week driving from Melbourne to Adelaide doing all the tourist attractions along the way. Phillip Island, Great Ocean Rd and the 12 Apostles (there arent 12 anymore as some have fallen into the ocean), a redwood forest and Kangaroo Island to name a few. Kangaroo Island is home to the Little Penguin.Little Penguins are the smallest penguin in the world! They are roughly only 33cm tall and weigh around 1 kilogram. These penguins spend around 80% of their lives at sea looking for food and then returning to their nesting burrows to breed, raise chicks, moult and to take a little break from the many weeks spent swimming! Little Penguins are the only penguin in the world with blue and white feathers. The blue colour on the back of the penguin camouflage the penguin from flying predators such as eagles. The light coloured stomach blends in with the sky to camouflage the penguin from the predators underneath in the water, such as seals. The earliest record of the Little Penguins around Kangaroo Island was in 1826. When she came home she brought me a little souvenir……..the cutest little penguin hand puppet. It is actually the size of the little penguins on Kangaroo Island. I love it.

Lovely little get together by Sue Way

During Christmas week, our son and his girlfriend visited us along with our youngest granddaughter, Daisy. To take a break from the holiday food, we decided to go out for a meal. We chose our favourite restaurant that overlooks the sea and has a relaxed atmosphere. I managed to take a picture with our son. He jokingly said he would charge me for it since you might recognize him as the actor Tony Way. Most recently, he played Lenny in After Life. He has also appeared in Game of Thrones and films such as Edge of Tomorrow with Tom Cruise and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. But to us, hes just Tony.

My … by Carol Clarke

… youngest granddaughter, Olivia, was competing in the County Championships at Shipley Country Park last weekend. I went along too to cheer her on! It was a bitterly cold, frosty day, but Im sooo glad I went … Olivia won her race getting the gold medal… and she and her two teammates won the gold medal for Mansfield Harriers too! This result qualifies Olivia to go onto the next stage. Im not too sure where or when that will be, but if possible Ill be there cheering her on again!!

P.S. I Woof You. by Janice McFarlane

When my family visited after Christmas, they brought their 5 month old Weimaraner -Otto their puppy with them. I was so excited to meet him. He came bounding in and pounced on me with lots of licks. I found it astounding that he was very sociable from the start. He was full of energy and quite mischievous, sneaking a few bits from the buffet I had laid out. One think we found is that Otto likes to cuddle, not just snuggle in but he literally likes to wrap his front paw over you as if giving a big hug. He did this with all of us which was so lovely. I managed to take this pic of Otto giving Harry one of his doggy hugs.
