Miss Poppy and Poppet by Janice McFarlane

I am really into crochet dolls at the moment There are some fantastic pattern designers out there and although some can be quite tricky I do like a challenge. So my latest project is complete, it has only taken me a month, mainly because the ringlet hair seemed to take forever, the hat wasnt part of the original pattern so that was my design, and the little bear was also part of a different pattern which I altered to what I wanted. I also altered the dress slightly, which is what I would do normally to put my own take on things. The little house is part of the doll pattern but again I added the vines myself. Miss Poppy has a wire skeleton which allows her to be posed. Its not difficult to do but it does make it slower crocheting limbs as I had to crochet around the wire and stuff at the same time. As with my card kits I like to give my complete crochet characters names which goes down well with customers. Im now ready to start on my next project and I cant wait.

Once …. by Carol Clarke

… Again … another weekend … another race meeting! lol A different track though as we were at Derby Moorways on Sunday. This time it was my youngest granddaughter, Olivia, who was competing in the 800 metres race. It was a really lovely day with beautiful sunshine. Wed taken deckchairs, picnic blanket and a pop up beach shelter too! We had a lovely view over the track too! Last time she ran a couple of weeks ago she got a new PB (personal best) and was rewarded with a visit to Boba, which she loves! Ive never been but I understand its a place that makes chilled, flavoured tea drinks with chewy bubbles in it! Unfortunately there wasnt a Boba nearby so she asked if she could have a Starbucks if she got another PB. Well she smashed her old PB and off we all went to Starbucks …. She still had a funny looking drink with odd things floating in it … but at least she was happy! lol

The Nerf-inator by Janice McFarlane

My grandson Harry had his 7th birthday party last weekend, and although he is not 7 until next week it was the only free weekend available. It wasnt the usual type of party with lots of games, the venue was covered in camouflage netting and party-goers were asked to bring their Nerf guns or some would be provided. The Nerf guns are very popular and fire foam pellets so, the battle was on. Even some of the dads who had brought their children joined in the fun which the kids loved. I was thinking back to when as a child we occasionally had a birthday party, they certainly werent every year always in the home with a sit-down tea of a few sandwiches maybe sausage rolls and jelly and ice cream. Games were simple and pass the parcel only contained one prize at the end, unlike the same game today has a prize after every layer so each child gets something. Also, there were no party bags for children to take home, a piece of birthday cake was wrapped in a napkin to take home. Those were the days, when kids were happy with the simplicity and a second mortgage wasnt required to pay for it. Those were the days!

Yet … by Carol Clarke

… again another weekend and more athletics medals won! My youngest son, Paul, was competing this time. It was the Masters County Championships, which was held at Moorways Stadium in Derby. He ran in the 3000 meters, 400 metres and 800 metres taking the Gold medal in the 800 and 3000 plus silver in the 400 metres! The Masters Championships are for athletes who are over 35 and they compete in 5-year age bands. Paul is 39 so hes at the top end of the age band! I wonder how many more medals hell get after his next birthday in January when hell be the youngest! lol

New Post Box Topper by Sue Way

We spotted a new post box topper on our walk with the dogs the other day. It has been made to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings on Normandy beach that took place on June 6 1944. The operation was given the codename OVERLORD. The topper shows the allied armies coming together. I love seeing the new toppers and learning more about the latest subject. I wonder what the next one will be?

Memorial Night by Vicki Avcin

Last Monday night the family of my childrens Dad held a Memorial Night at Albion Park Raceway. When we got married, my then husband was introduced into the career path that was to last the next 50 years. Sadly he passed on 22nd April and his wishes were that he had no funeral but rather a party was to be held down the track.(no pun intended) So our son and the fathers current partner thought what better way to celebrate his life than to have a Memorial Night at a place that he raced at regularly. There was a race named in his honour and up in the function room there was lots of memorabilia on display. I made up a 72 slide powerpoint with photos that Id spent a week scanning photos of some of the more prominent greys hed had through out his career which was shown on the big screen through out the night. After the race named in his honour, my son presented the winner with the trophy as family and friends all gathered trackside to hear from a few people that had been such a big part of his life. I also caught up with quite a few people still in the industry from back when we brought that first grey. It was a wonderful night and Im sure he wouldve been up there feeling very proud of himself that he was remembered in this way. Photo is the cover of the slideshow I did and the trackside gathering at the trophy presentation.

Kittens! by Sue Way

You may remember that I told you a few months ago that my son and his family took in another stray kitten (Socks) and after taking her to the vet for a check-up, found out she was pregnant. Well, a few weeks ago she gave birth to her kittens. She is staying at one of the foster veterinary nurses houses at the moment, in case anything goes wrong. But it seems like mum and babies are doing well. So Socks will soon return home to our little granddaughter, who is very excited to own two kittens.
