Lest We Forget by Janice McFarlane

Its the time of year now where we see towns and villages adorned with poppies, whether they are attached to lampposts or crochet and knitted ones are decorating windows and memorials. This certainly happens in the village O live in as well as all the neighbouring villages. One village near me makes it a really special occasion and the community gets involved. They have street light poppies like the Christmas lights we see. The cenotaph is decorated with knitted and crochet poppies as well as the miners wheel with it being a former mining village. Shop windows are decorated, flags are out and they have a fantastic attendance at the memorial service on Remembrance Sunday. The weeks running up to it the village raises funds for the Royal British Legion. I contribute annually by making something unique for the lady who sorts it all out from the poppies, decorating and fundraising. Last year I made brooches This year I painted some commemorative plaques, which I also made polymer clay poppies to add a 3D arrangement. I also made some sparkly keyrings with polymer clay poppies on too. These I donate for my friend to sell, which raises funds for a wonderful charity. One close to my heart as my husband is ex RAF and always lays the wreath on behalf of our church, but also family ties to the wars. It is always a privilege to try and help in some way, so we never forget the sacrifices made.

They are awake! by Sue Way

Last year I planted up some pots to give us some Autumn colour. I always forget what Ive planted from one year to the next, so its a nice surprise when they come back. One pot just had leaves for months, then I noticed some buds, but it just stayed like that for weeks. I thought it was maybe getting too late in the year for anything to happen. Then one morning I noticed they had finally flowered and I remembered it was chrysanthemums. I was beginning to think they had gone back to sleep. I am amazed by all the colours mixed up together. My end of month SALE is now on! With 20% off of my whole store!

Proud Pumpkins by Anne Lever

I am extraordinarily pleased that I managed to grow 2 whole pumpkins in my very own garden this year! woo hoo! They are a turks turban and a sweet dumpling. I actually planted five different squash plants, but only these 2 fruits arrived. I love having ornamental pumpkins in my home during spooky season, and I was determined to grow my own this year. Mission accomplished!

This .... by Carol Clarke

...beautiful post box topper is just one of many that have appeared in and around our local area. These beauties have been lovingly crafted as part of a craft bombing project in association with The Artful Buttoner, which is a local wool shop and craft group, and Nottinghamshire Sands for baby loss awareness week. What a lovely thing to organise and do for such a sad cause. Below are two of my Xmas Santa Childs Santa Letter to and from Santa Mini Kits ... There are lots more to choose from too! lol

Pretty Petunias by Amanda Assenbruck

We have been so busy post holiday dealing with all the declared weeds on our property that have sprung up seemingly from nowhere due to the above average winter rain that I have only recently realised that among the rubbish there was an upside. These lovely Petunias have also sprung up seemingly from nowhere. We had been in drought so long I cant even remember when this garden bed had Petunias in it! About a dozen plants have sprung up, some of them in the lawn even. Particularly nice also was to find one white and pink plant had sprung up at our pet cemetery, nowhere near the other plants! My cards today feature some lovely animals getting into the Christmas spirit. There are now 9 in this collection, some currently on discount.

Weird Plant by Vicki Avcin

We have a couple of trees in the front garden that Ive not seen before. The neighbour called them Pigs Ear because of the shape of the big leaves. The leaves are unusual in that they are triangular in shape with scallop edges and look and feel like velvet. (The Pigs Ear is actually a small leaf succulent that doesnt grow high and is better suited as ground cover)So after doing a little investigating I found out they are actually an Elephants Ear, or sometimes called Velvet Elephants Ear or Felt Plant. The botanical name is Kalanchoe beharensis and has upper leaves that are bronze and the underside is silvery grey. It comes from Madagascar, is a succulent and grows to about 2 metres. The reason they are doing so well is they like a sunny spot, need next to nothing in the way of care and actually thrive just being let grow. They are slow growers and mid to late spring with little yellow flowers. There were a couple more growing which got flattened when the trees were cleared from the side of the house but it seems like what is left at the base/roots will grow back. I think they are a pretty cool looking tree, definitely gets a conversation going because visitors have comment on this weird plant.
