Last month for painting by Judith Henry

Its getting colder in Iowa, USA. My husband tries to paint one side of the house each year. That is even a challenge with wet springtime, hot summers and cooler autumn. Last year only half of this side got painted. I helped a little but its hard work. I think this will be the last time we completely paint on out own.

Will they be best buddies? by Sue Way

Billy is gradually getting used to having an annoying puppy around. Most of the time he loves playing bitey face or letting Sam cuddle up to him. We keep an eye on him and when he looks like he needs a break, we get him up on the sofa and tell Sam off Sometimes the playing can get a bit much lol But at least they keep each other entertained. I am sure they will end up being best buddies and Billy will enjoy cuddle up time as much as Sam. As the weather was so awful last weekend I had time to sit and make some new designs. I hope you like them.

Munched! by Vicki Avcin

One of the things about being a firefighter is being aware and preparing ones property for fire and storm season. As a Volunteer Community Educator Ive spoken to many people about making sure there are no large trees close to structures (homes, sheds) on their property. So one of the first things we had to do was clear some trees that were only 5 or so metres from both our house and the neighbours shed. The neighbour was happy that we wanted to remove them as shed been trying for years with the previous owner to get rid of them. So last weekend they went. There was 4 big gums and a couple of smaller trees which we then had to clean up. As wed also had 3 big gums removed at the back a week prior and the effort to clear all the branches and timber up, we decided to hire a tree chipper/mulcher for a week to make life a little easier…… and quicker. It was great to see the difference 2 hrs work made to the front yard. We still have quite a bit to go and get rid of the logs/tree trunks but the tree lopper will come back and remove most of them. We will keep some for firewood next winter. But at least we know that any big storms wont bring these big trees down onto the house and the gutters will be able to be kept clean and no chance of embers landing if there was a fire in the reserve down the back of our property.

This week featured designs are two Australian Christmas designs after seeing a question about Australian cards that dont have snow on them. Wont get more Aussie than these!

This ... by Carol Clarke

week it was the turn of 9 year old Olivia to compete in her 1st ever race. Shes been training with Mansfield Harriers for awhile now but hasnt competed in a race. Her Daddy, our youngest son, started running when he was 11 and was spotted at his schools sports day. He was soon representing Nottinghamshire at national level. Olivia did really well competing against runners 2 to 3 years older than herself and came 18th. Shes sooo got the running bug now and is looking forward to competing in more races! lol Below are two of my Halloween On the Shelf Card Kits ... There are lots more to choose from too! lol

My First Canvas by Janice McFarlane

I do like to try new hobbies, some Ive been doing for many years, others Ive tried but wasnt something I would persist at. Ive always loved and admired those who could paint pictures. Im not too bad at drawing, and colouring with markers and pencils but wanted to have a go at painting. More out of necessity as we recently decorated the living area and I couldnt find any pictures which suited the colour theme. So I thought I would have a go myself. At first I thought keep it simple perhaps abstract with just splashes of colour, then I thought about birch trees as they are a particular favourite of mine. Having no idea where to begin I searched YouTube and after viewing many artists I found a lady who did the most amazing paintings step by step and very easy to follow. Im so pleased I persevered as for my first canvas I am pleased with the result.

Playing by Tina Fitch

Caught them nicely playing at the bottom of the garden. Id got up late so they were waiting for their breakfast so passing the time away by playing together. There was 4 of them all together but I could only get 2 in the frame at the same time as the other pair were across the bank from them I caught. I sat and watched for ages it really warmed my heart to see them just playing in the sunlight on the bank. Mum and dad were watching them as normal at the top. I made my coffee and went and sat outside just watching. However they soon got restless waiting so I did their breakfast and they were happy. Looks like I have 6 new pets

Richmond Park Does It Again...
by Clare Walker

Once again, our annual visit to Richmond Park did not disappoint. As well as a red deer herd in the distance, creatures coming closer included younger red deer disgruntled by being unable to rut, curious jackdaws, a green parakeet determined to say hello *and* hide himself simultaneously, seven squirrels...And last but not least, one of the cutest female roe deer we`ve ever seen. In gorgeous sunshine too-who could ask for more in October in the UK?
