Sams First Walk! by Sue Way

So a few days ago Sam was finally allowed out for his very first walk. We drove to a quiet small park so that he wouldnt be too overwhelmed. He looked a bit worried when we first put him on the ground, but was soon jumping about and trying to eat leaves. We kept it nice and short to protect his little bones. So hubby sat with him, while I took Billy for a run around the rest of the park. When we got home, he was a very tired little puppy.

Mini Mouse by Janice McFarlane

I cant believe how quickly this year has flown by. It may be that the older I get the quicker time goes by. Its no surprise the shops are filling up with their Christmas stock. Every year it gets earlier and earlier, in the crafting world Christmas is always early as we have to start our designs so customers can then prepare their makes for Christmas. Its the same with other hobbies too. In between all of the prep for a Christmas craft fair which I sell my crochet and needle felted items I make, a friend asked me to crochet a mini mouse which literally is no bigger than the palm of my hand. It wasnt so much the pattern was difficult it was just very fiddley. Of course I made more work for myself as I made paws and nose from air dry clay and inserted wire so he could be posed and I even put fine whiskers on him. I was rather pleased with the end result and it certainly gives new meaning to mini mouse.

Drunk Parrots by Vicki Avcin

We have a tree in our yard that I had never seen before so after asking in a gardening group and some googling we found out its called a Drunken Parrot tree or botanical name Schotia brachypetala. The tree originates in Africa, so another imported tree. It gets its name because it is heavenly laden with nectar and birds and insects love it at this time of year. The rainbow lorikeets love it and get drunk on the fermented nectar and get quite noisy for a couple of weeks at this time of year. It seems it is a friendly tree unlike the other tree that is grown here from Africa, the African Tulip tree, which although it puts on a wonderful display of flowers is actually poisonous to our native bees and is now being removed by councils that planted them for the shade and floral display in parks and on footpaths. It is up to property owners as to whether they remove the tree on their property or not but they are being advised to have them removed. I love the unusual flower that the Drunken Parrot tree has.
