Arty Darcey by Janice McFarlane

My beautiful eldest granddaughter Darcey is filling her time doing al kinds of arty things. She is twelve but turns 13 in May. She loves cosmetics as I think most teenage girls do, and whilst in lockdown has been trying many different looks. Thankfully, she keeps things natural and subtle. Her favourite subject at school is art, and whilst in lockdown her mum bought her some canvases and paints. She normally draws a lot of manga type characters and they are really good, this is her first time painting on canvas. I was quite amazed when I first saw them, because the colours, blending and perspective were so good. The clouds in particular I loved, and the silhouettes. I would like to see her really develop this more as I think she is natural at it. I do miss her as she doesnt live locally but at least I still get to speak to her and see what she has been up to.

COVID-19 strikes by Sue Rice

On April 17th my dads wife called in a panic that he just wouldnt wake up. She also called in a panic on the 18th for the same reason. Because he had heart issues, didnt have a fever, or any other Covid symptoms, and had been isolated since the middle of March, it didnt occur to me or to a doctor that came to check him out in his home that Covid was an issue. In fact he had heart medication prescribed for him. The absolute overwhelming symptom was a mental confusion. However he was 91 and had some dementia so it wasnt suspicious. Early in the morning on the 25th he fell and his wife called Emergency. We call it 911 here in the USA. It was then that he thought he had Covid and when the test came back they were correct, it was Covid. He was admitted to the hospital in isolation therefore like everybody knows there was no last contact as he died. We were able to call him, but he was mostly incoherent. He passed away on the 27th. For reasons I can hardly comprehend I tested negative for the virus. I was his caregiver and in very close contact with him. I always wore gloves and mask, but I did touch and handle all of his private needs. His wife, who is 89, tested positive. She is now living with her children. Hopefully she survives. Im adding two my Fathers Day cards in honor of him. The picture of my dad and me was taken on his 91st birthday.

Little did I know last year was the last Fathers Day card I would give to my dad.

Time to grow! by Sue Way

Last year hubby bought himself a little plastic lean-to greenhouse, just to see if he would use it. Well as we have more time on our hands at the moment, he is out there every day! He has sprouted tomatoes, strawberries and peppers from the actual vegetable! I found some lettuce seeds that I bought last year & have just potted them on. Its so exciting to pop out there every morning and see them growing. I cant wait to taste the fruits of our labour! Here is a pic of my lettuces a few days before I potted them on. I hope you are all keeping safe and well. www.craftsuprint.com/sue-way/?r=968387

More Strange Happenings by Vicki Avcin

Well Mother Nature is surely continuing to surprise us during this Corona Crisis. Was sitting out the front of the house last week and saw what I thought was a hummingbird. Only thing is we dont have hummingbirds here in Australia. I watched this little creature flit around the flowers in the garden till eventually it flew off. Then in the local gardening page on Facebook someone else posted about seeing the same thing. Another poster then said theyd seen them too and had taken pictures and after contacting the museum this little thing was identified as a Hummingbird Hawkmoth. This species of moths are only found in Australia although there are several species in SE Asia. They only feed during the day (diurnal) and the tongue (proboscis) is long enough to reach down into orchids for them to feed. They feed from flowers. Also known as a clearwing hawkmoth they are not a common sight and because they are so fast are difficult to photograph. So of course the challenge was on in the gardening group to capture these out of the ordinary moths. This photo is one of the moths feeding on a bottlebrush in the garden. So weve had a lot of things lately that weve not had previously like the Blue Tiger butterflies, the Fruit sucking moths (posted about in previous news) and now these hummingbird moths. Is it because we are all locked down at home and looking at the world around us more closely or is it because without the pollution they have come to delight us? Whatever it is I am enjoying what Mother Nature is giving us at the moment.

This weeks designs are two of my older Xtenda card designs. They extend so they can be hung up. Check out all of them by putting the word Xtenda in the search.

Staying in. by Helen Gomm

While some of us are ,self isolating ,and staying in all the time. I have reigned myself to it. Things I miss ,not going out to the lovely parks and gardens, about this time of year, it would be a trip to see the blue bells. I love to do all sorts of craft, but have been doing more uploading cards, from the clever designers to show . Thank goodness for our hobbys. Keep well everyone.

Rainbow bread by Carol Dunne

My grand daughter is enjoying her time at home while the schools are closed. She does her school work but also has fun with science experiments and crafts and cooking. This is her Rainbow bread she has mixed different flavours into her bread dough and then put them in the bread tin together. An interesting combination that might catch on.
