International Womens day by Tina Fitch

Well yes you guessed it, Lakenheath Base visit for International Ladies day!I was asked to arrange a base visit for ladies to celebrate so I got together 20 lady Photographers and off we went on Friday 6th March to celebrate. The International Womens Day date was moved to March 8 in 1913. ... The day aimed to help nations worldwide eliminate discrimination against women. It also focused on helping women gain full and equal participation in global development. We certainly gave all those men something to think about today! We are equal we can do what men do and always have been able too... why some think we are any different I have no idea!I am off to Nellis AFB next week for Red Flag so look out for more stunning aircraft.

Snakes Alive! by Vicki Avcin

Well getting the mail out of our letter box is becoming quite an artform lately. With the wet weather weve had the past month especially the last week (nearly 200mm) the snakes are on the move and looking for dry spots to make their home. A couple of weeks ago we found a small carpet python happily curled up in our letterbox. Hubby managed to get it out and relocate to the bushland at the back of us. Then Monday this week we were coming in the drive way and the fellow in the photo was on the fence just near the letterbox. We disturbed it and it turned round and crawled into the letter box. Hubby went up a short time later to remove it but it had moved on. We believe it was a common green tree snake. The theory is that the snakes that can climb are not venomous, although they can bite and people can feel sick from the bite. That said there have been reports lately that people have seen brown snakes in trees, and these are venomous……very venomous. Last night I was about to walk out the front screen door and saw what I think was a coastal python and this morning we had a small eastern brown slither across the front patio, across the lawn and into the garden. So getting the mail now means using a steel wire (that you hang pot plants off) that has a hook on the end, and using that to open the mail box. Then with a long handled rubbish pickup tool, using that to grab the mail. I dont think Im ever putting my hand in that mailbox again!

This week promoted items are two of my latest up loads that have a vintage feel to them.

Master of Disguise by Janice McFarlane

I think most kids like to dress up in one way or another and my two year old grandson Harry is no exception. He takes it to the extreme. Insisting at times on going on the school run with his mum dressed in some bizarre combination of normal clothes and costume. Even if its just the headgear from PJ Masks or even a sleepy Star Wars storm trooper, he is always wearing something either in the house whilst playing or at his Little Frogs playgroup. He can be iron man one minute, a ninja turtle another or even a weird combination of Dr Iron man channelling Elton John. Whatever character he is, he always makes me laugh with his facial expressions. I just love to see the pictures my daughter sends me, (which is nearly on a daily basis) of all the antics Harry gets up to, he is quite a character.

Incredible waterfall by Carol Dunne

I had a lot of fun in Singapore airport, if only all airports were like that. This was very difficult to photograph, it is called The Jewel which is is a large domed structure - I have photographed it from the train which goes around visiting each terminal. The water falls from a great height through a circular hole in the roof and cascades down through a hole in the floor where it goes around like a whirlpool. Somewhere amongst all those trees are shops on different levels. I was so amazed by the waterfall that I didnt bother with the shops.

A Visit to the Orchid Festival by Clare Walker

This week, we had family visiting, and they asked to go to Kew Gardens. So we had a wonderful day filled with flowers and plants, plus the bonus of the Orchid Festival, which showed off stunning orchid species from Indonesia in such numbers that it made my head spin. This is just one of the *very* many photos we took, showing just a fraction of the orchids in the festival section..There was so much that was lovely to see and do, you may be hearing from me about Kew for weeks...
