First Competition by Vicki Avcin

My grandson had his first Taekwondo competition last weekend and I am very proud of him.First time, so the nerves would have kicked in (no pun intended) but he did so well and ended up with a Silver medal. Only a handful of students went from his club so to come out with second in his group was a fantastic effort. It was all done with electronic scoring like they do in the Olympics so this was also new to him. The Sunshine Coast Open is an annual event for Taekwondo and is hosted by Kicks Taekwondo. It is a friendly tournament for all ages and levels. Both my son and grandson took up the sport 2 years ago, and Riley has already had a Most Improved trophy which he got in April last year. His Aunty (my daughter) used to do martial arts and held 3 Australian titles so maybe he is going to follow in her footsteps.

Two more of my recent uploads from my Floral and Swirl Page Curl designs are my featured designs this week.

Whats in a name!!! by Janice McFarlane

Ive recently shared my love of crochet, which Ive done since a child. As my granddaughters birthday was fast approaching and as she loves unicorns and mermaids, when I saw this pattern I thought it was perfect. It was a little challenging as some of the pattern didnt follow the norms Im used to, but there was an extensive glossary of terms. The stitches were basic, but in some cases how they were used to create the detailed shape was different. It also had some wired armature to help give the shape and be posable. It took about a week and a half to complete, and I finished it with small diamante along the spine of the tail, as well as sequins on the body, some jewels on the head, and needle felted some fluffy mane on to her. The only other problem I had was how to describe her. The common terminology for a mythical sea horse is Hippocampus (although that also refers to a part of the human brain lol) but that didnt really reflect the delicateness of her, I kept thinking of a Hippopotamus. So there were other variations to consider apart from Sea Horse, could it be just a Mermaid Unicorn, Mermicorn, Unimaid, Horse Mermaid, Water Horse, Sea Horse Unicorn???? Well whatever the name Im sure my granddaughter Evie will love her.

Brr.... by Carol Clarke

It was sooo cold when we went out for the day this week!! The sun was shining though and that made all the difference, especially when we could manage to get out of the bitterly cold wind!! It didnt stop us from having a nice stroll around Pleasley Pit Country Park ... but the lovely lunch and hot drinks in the Visitor Centre Cafe were very much appreciated too! lol Below are two of my NEW 3D Pretty Shaped Tartan Clutch Bags Card Mini Kits. Watch out for more ... Coming Soon! lol

Special Birthday by Joan King

This last week has been a rather special week. My husband turned 90 years old. His daughter and her partner came down to stay with us for a few nights so they could celebrate his birthday with him and they took us out to a special restaurant that we didnt even know existed!!! It was called Harbourside and the reason for that is quite obvious. It was fine dining and we sat outside on the deck which was over the water. It was magnificent and got a little cool when the breeze got up. Saying that it was around 24 degrees at that time even in the evening but we had got used to 30 degrees or thereabouts. It was a beautiful meal. Hubby is at the front of the picture with me opposite and his daughter on the left in the red jacket and her partner opposite. A few days later we attended our first market under new management for the year. It was so much better, more people around as they advertised properly. I even won a raffle for a free stall for the next market. Yeah. Now life is back to normal again.

Leave Art in South America by Silvia Griffin

I love to cruise and in so many ports I have encountered those very talented locals that make this wonderful objects of art. I do believe the use Palm-tree leaves. They are very playable as I remember when I get some at Palm Sunday. What astonished me is how fast they are in making these roses and grasshoppers. I still have them even so they dry out but keep.
