Craft Market by Joan King

Each month my husband and I take part in the local Arts and Craft market. We always enjoy going there as we catch up with all the other crafters and friends and have a good chat about all sorts. It is winter here currently - well actually we have just gone into Spring although at the moment the weather is up and down like a yo yo and feels worse than winter was!!!! Being unstable weather the market is very up and down but we made some sales so cant complain. Its something we can go out and do together.

Gorgeous Gourds by Anne Lever

I love pumpkins. I dont like the taste, or the smell when they are carved, but I love the look of them. I am obsessed with small gourds, the stranger and knobblier the better. When I saw these in my local artisan florist, I couldnt help myself. I can honestly say I have never seen knobblier pumpkins! They will last as a decorative item well past halloween, and will probably be joined by many more tiny pumpkins before halloween is over!

Alton Water by Sue Way

We havent been to Alton Water for a few years so, as hubby is resting after a small op, we decided to take Billy for his first adventure there. The weather was good, but unfortunately, as there hasnt been much rain this year, the water level was lower than usual and Billy got a bit muddy lol Luckily by the time we walked around and stopped for lunch at the waterside, he was dry and clean. Its such a peaceful place, with lots of wildlife and scenery. Very relaxing. We had a lovely day and decided to have a few more days out while hubby is off. Here are a couple of my latest designs. Thanks for looking x Sue x http://www.craftsuprint.com/sue-way/?r=968387

Binna Burra by Vicki Avcin

Binna Burra Lodge is one of SE Queenslands icons. It is heritage listed and in one of the most peaceful and beautiful parts of the world. Located in the Gold Coast Hinterland, it celebrated its 85th birthday last year. Away from the maddening hustle and bustle of life, there is the main lodge and the recently opened Eco Sky Lodges along with other buildings/units. Until a few days ago when a devastating fire took its life. All of it. This past week we have had over 100 fires of significance in Queensland and they are fires like we have never seen here before. We are seeing fire behaviour that until recently has only been seen in the southern states and it has taken a heavy toll on resources and property. The Canungra/Sarabah fires that have taken properties including Binna Burra have been burning for nearly a week and two days ago fires in the Peregian Beach area in the Sunshine Coast hinterland plus horrendous fires in the Stanthorpe area have been such that we have never had before and firefighters have had to pullout because it was too dangerous to actively fight them. Thousands evacuated through all fires and which some residents still dont know if they have homes to go to because it is too dangerous still to go into some areas. The loss of Binna Burra has hit hard by not only for the owners but anyone who had ever been there and those who know the area or live in the Scenic Rim. The owners have vowed to rebuild but it will never replace the history that it is known for. Thankfully though, in all the fires in Queensland not one life has been lost to date.

Spinning a Yarn! by Janice McFarlane

My cat Bailey, like most cats will always find some kind of mischief to get up to if he can, particularly on an evening when I sit down to relax in front of the TV and do some crochet. I have to have eyes in the front, back and sides of my head where my Yarn is concerned, watching his every move. On this occasion he jumped up onto the chair and laid quite nicely, but with that enigmatic stare, I should have know better. Suddenly a paw was on my yarn as he sneakily looked away so as not to make eye contact. Then the paw started to unravel the yarn slightly as he tried to completely look as though he wasnt doing anything. Then they next thing he was curled up fast asleep. Typical, I thought, as I was just moving stuff around so I could move my yarn out of the way. Why do we do it ? I ask myself. Us cat owners always accommodate the cat first!!!

A wild life treat by Carol Dunne

My grand daughter came for a couple of days as a treat before school term started again. She had made a list of everything she wanted to do over the summer break. Last thing on her list was a trip to Yorkshire Wild Life Park. She wanted to see a polar bear and this is the only place in the country which has them. They have a research program involving the polar bears but their enclosure is so big that even though we could see them we didnt manage to get any close up photographs. They also have enclosures which allow people to walk about amongst the animals, one with wallabies and the one in the photo which shows Sophie and her granddad in the lemur enclosure. We all enjoyed our trip very much.
