Storm Brewing by Janice McFarlane

Well, I can say with the utmost of certainty that up until now we havent exactly had the summer we were hoping for. In some ways we were spoilt last year with a lot of continuous sunshine (although too hot at times). This year seems to have been intermittent days of sunshine and rain. Nevertheless, last week was one where it was hit and miss, and then everything went quiet no birds singing - a calm before the storm. The cloud form was very heavy, black and very low, it was really weird as it reminded me of the huge lingering spaceship from the movie Independence Day, as I could see bright sky in the distance, which is why I took the picture as it was so odd.

The Magic of Dartmoor Ponies

by Clare Walker

This time, I thought you might like to share in a magical experience we had the other week. Visiting Dartmoor (in scorching heat, itself a rarity there, or so I hear) we came across a family of the famous virtually-wild Dartmoor ponies. They were trying to get shade by a rocky tor. And, on looking closely, it was plain they were also forming a protective circle around two foals. `Best just to observe them from the car, and leave them in peace,` we decided. But then, when the other visitors had gone, the ponies gathered in what I can only describe as looking like a `horse conference`. After which, they paraded in single file down the hill, as if having decided to show us there family. The photo shows just two of these beautiful animals, though you can see from it just how close to our car they came. The experience of seeing all seven of them voluntarily paying us a visit, including the two tiny foals, was a piece of magic that we`ll always remember.

These new designs are on discount until July 22nd 2019-along with the rest of my shop. Thanks for looking!

Billy went to the groomer! by Sue Way

One of the ladies that I meet in on our dog walk in the mornings is training to be a dog groomer. So she asked if she could practice on Billy, as she has to learn all types of coat. I explained that his coat is still quite light and will get a lot thicker as he matures, but it was a good place to start. I was also a bit worried as he has never been to the groomer before. Well after a battle to get him into her car, off they went for the day. I missed him. He came home feeling so soft and smelling lovely BUT! He was a bit naughty. He liked being brushed, was wary of the bath (even though he always wants to jump into mine) and freaked out with the hairdryer. He also barked a lot. He had a little cry when he got home, but then once hubby came home he fell sound asleep. Then the next day I took him down the beach, but the tide was out, so he got a bit muddy lol Oh well I have to let him enjoy himself. Here are a couple of my latest designs. Thanks for looking x Sue xhttp://www.craftsuprint.com/sue-way/?r=968387

Melting Moments by Anne Lever

My son made some gorgeous looking chocolate cookies this evening to take into school tomorrow. They are called melting moments, and they are a staple in my house. The recipe is in an old ragged recipe book that i had when i was in the school that he is in now. I learned to make them in home economics, and have passed the recipe onto him. They are gorgeous, and Im sure his school mates will love them!

Theres .... by Carol Clarke

... a storm brewing!! Its often said of the UK that summer consists of a few nice days and a thunderstorm! And thats what I thought was happening this week. We were out for a walk Down the Quarries (as they call it here!) The Quarries in question were owned many many moons ago by the Duke of Portland but were made into a park in Victorian times. Needless to say were were many miles from home and shelter when these looming clouds looked like they were heading for us! We were lucky though as the worst passed us by and we just got a sprinkling of rain ... not enough even to don out waterproofs! It made for a very dramatic photo though! lol

Let the Games Begin by Vicki Avcin

On Saturday 13th July, the Emergency Service Cadet Games was held in Brisbane. 31 teams of cadets, 6 per team, descended on the PCYC grounds to participate in a series of events to take out the top honours. The games arent just about winning, but more focused on teamwork, supporting each other and working out how to achieve completing tasks and the friendships made all round. Whether teams go home with a trophy or not the cadets are all winners. For a winters day, it was sunny and warm which not only made it a lovely day but the heat did offer challenges in itself. They were awarded points for completing tasks, teamwork and supporting not only their team but other teams as well. Teams were the Emergency Service Cadets, Rural Fire Service Cadets, Army Cadets, Air Force Cadets and a Surf Life Saving team. The morning events were done as complete teams and the afternoon events, the field was reset with new challenges and the cadets then had to regroup as new teams with each single team member having to go and make up teams with others (so each team of 6 had 6 complete new members/strangers). They then had a series of events to complete as new teams. I was a Judge/Official for the Day and my team of judges was made up of Police (QPS), QFES (firefighters from the Urban, Auxiliary and Rural Fire Service) and SES (State Emergency Service). Each activity was allocated 5 to 8 judges so plenty of eyes to watch all the teams as they went through each activity in sets of 4 or 5 teams at a time at each activity. Because of the distance of 3 lots of teams, 3 groups were in camp at the PCYC hall Friday and Saturday night with everyone heading home Sunday morning. So sleeping bags and BBQs were the order of the accommodation for the weekend. My Cadets didnt come away with the trophies apart from one of our cadets who was in the Mixed Team that achieved 3rd place. Each team member was awarded a medal. All cadets competing were given a bar or their efforts. It was an exhausting weekend but absolutely fantastic.

CELEBRATING THE ALLIES

SPOT THE BRIT ! by Wanda Lipski

Ignore is a small town where the first-ever operation to bring supplies to the Resistance saw a Lancaster land in a field, now part of an industrial estate. My husband (French but an honorary member of the Royal British Legion for putting up with a Brit) was their official representative carrying the Union flag during the commemoration of this unheard-of prowess. The plane was part of the US air-force so we were treated to Glen Miller, town-hall employees dressed in military uniforms, taped interviews with eyewitnesses of the landing (and the camouflage operation before the plane left for the UK), a military camp with tanks and even a glider ...! As you can see I was roped in to be a queeny look alike and I have the impression that my hat was photographed multiple times. Off next week to a commemoration of British soldiers, so Ill keep you informed. ENJOY your week ç

Pea chick by Carol Dunne

On a recent trip to Powys Castle in North Wales we were having a snack in the cafe gardens when Mr peacock came to see us to see what he could scrounge. However he did not come alone. He also brought Mrs peacock and surprise, surprise they also brought a baby peacock with them. How delightful was that, I have never seen a baby peacock chick before. Unfortunately, no matter how hard I tried I could not get the whole family in one photo.
