Cork Store New Orleans by Silvia Griffin

Cork is the outer bark of the cork oak tree which then regrows making cork one of the most sustainable products in the world. The fabric is made by taking layers of cork and sealing it to a cotton fabric using silicone which is water and stain resistant and extremely durable. On our last trip to New Orleans in April we found the store by accident. We knew about it since we saw it on TV . They sell lovely stuff although not for my budget. After a long trip I am now back making new Iris Folding patterns. There are 12 more in the pipe line .... Thank you for considering my creations. Silvia Griffin

First time cooking with Nanna by Helen Howell

My little granddaughter Alyssa is now just over two and half years old. She came to stay with me for a few days and I thought it was time we cooked something together. I picked something easy that I thought she might be able to participate in and decided on cheese and chive scones. Standing on a steady stool, apron tied around her we began. I placed the food processor in front of her and measured out all the ingredients, she then with my help placed them all into the processor and was allowed to switch it on. Her excitement was joy to see when she saw the food processor mixing everything together. Then we rolled out the dough, to which she said, Nanny Play dough, No, Alyssa, I replied, Scone dough. She did the cutting out with the scone cutter and I placed them on the baking sheet. Under my instructions she brushed each with egg wash, scatter cheese on top (and ate some of the cheese for herself ^_^ ). She took a peek through the oven door every now and again to watch them rising and when they finally came out she declared Scones! I hope she and I will have many more cooking adventures together.

And the Pins keep falling by Deloraine Neubauer

My last news story was about the leaps & bounds my daughter has taken in her favourite sport. October last year was big for her and she continues to grow and commit herself to improving her game and motivating others to do the same. The first half of 2019 has continued on that same roller coaster Cate was riding back in 2018. In April she competed at Toowoomba in the Youth Championships for tenpin bowling. Her championship squads were a bit below her average of 200 and she was upset with herself for only averaging 167. But she came back firing on all cylinders during the Masters tournament the following day, averaging 206 and winning the title of TBAQ Youth Female Master 2019.Mothers Day saw me spending the day at a bowling alley at Tweed Heads, watching Cate and her friends compete in the Tenpin Queensland championships. Cate went in hoping to defend her Under 21 Open Girls Masters title from 2018, which she also won in 2017. The Masters Champions are based on the highest All Events result over the weekend. As she is over 18 Cate competes as an adult, not a junior, however, the Masters is awarded Under 21 or adult. She went into the weekend based on a competing average of 200, she had a few low games during her squads, however, out of her 9 games she bowled 5 of them over 200, one slightly under, & the rest she doesnt want to know about . She finished the weekend with an overall total pin fall of 1830.In the Adults there is 4 divisions, which are based on their competing averages, this keeps it fair so that those bowling against each other are of a similar skill level. Division 1 is the highest of these. In the doubles and teams events the division is based on the total averages of the team.Cate achieved 1st place - Adult Ladies Division 1 All Events, 1st place - Adult Ladies Division 1 Singles, 5th place - Adult Mixed Division 1 Doubles, 1st place - Adult Mixed Division 4 Teams, and she successfully defended her title with Under 21 Open Girls Master 2019. She only has next year to keep this going, as she turns 21 in March. She then rolled off for the chance to be part of the Brisbane Ladies team for Association Challenge. She succeeded in gaining a place on the team. The Association Challenge was held last weekend in Rockhampton, Queensland. The Brisbane team came home with some trophies to add to the various cabinets. Ladies placed 2nd overall, a 5 man team from the Ladies won the Ladies high team game - scoring 1011 pin fall between the 5 bowlers, Brisbane combined team finished 3rd, and the High games for both the mens & ladies divisions came home to Brisbane. Now we wait to see what the rest of the year brings us.......

Here are a few of my new Floral designs, colours to suit most preferences and any occasion.

Trip to Norway by Judith Henry

Just back from a two week vacation in Norway. It was cool weather which we knew before leaving. So it was good we took layers. We were pampered aboard the final cruise of the Prinsendam. Good food, lovely dinner partners, great food and wonderful staff. Couldnt ask for better views. We saw many fords with lots of waterfalls. We also studied viking history.

... Black Swan! Walking round a local reservoir this week we saw this lovely Black Swan. Its a great place for wildlife with a great variety of birds and butterflies but its the first time weve seen a black swan there, in fact its the first time Ive ever seen one! Apparently they come originally from Australia and were introduced as an ornamental bird in the 1800s, but have escaped and now breed here! Below are 2 of my new 3D Triangle Shadow box Scene it Cards ... Watch out for more more coming soon! lol

My New Roommates by Marlo Patterson

Meet Charlie & Bella. These two cuties started living with me about a week and half ago. I found them huddle in the corner of my neighbors porch area. They were severly underweight and scared. I talked to the neighbor about them and she said they brought them in for a few days and then threw them back outside. And before they did - they put ponytail holders around their necks (what are people thinking!). I am not sure if I believe my neighbors story completely, but it is what it is. Charlie is the one that came to me after I talked to him for a few minutes. The vet has given them reasonably clean bill of health. I have started their vaccinations. And I found out that they are roughly 10 weeks old and boy/girl twins. It is hard to tell them apart just by looking at them. They are both completely black and both have the same color eyes (taupe). I can tell them apart by their personalities. I am trying to find collars for them - but they are so small every collar I get is too big. It has been a lot of years since I have had a kitten in my life and about 5 years since I have had a cat in my life. I was thinking about getting A cat - but the universe seems to have given me twins. They are not lacking in energy and it is a little crazy because I live in a studio apartment. They have their favorite toys and a couple we play with together. Charlie is more outgoing and lovey - where as - Bella is more shy and reserved. But, at the end of the night they both curl up with me in bed (well for a little while). I feel like I am in the no stage with them. LOL But, I am replacing things little by little with things they can do. Bella likes catnip and well Charlie could care less. So, they are learning and I am relearning. In the picture - the one kitten looking at me is Charlie and the other one is Bella.

Cat Biscuits by Janice McFarlane

My Ragdoll cat Bailey is known for his inquisitive behaviour, it is instinctive in all cats. I think we should have called him Sherlock instead of Bailey. We cant put anything down without a full CSI investigation from him from every angle. he sniffs, and paws, walks round the item a few times. Sometimes knocking the thing to the floor to see if its dead. Tests the strength by standing all over it, even pouncing at the said item. Perhaps gives it a roll and a toss in the air. After all that, he usually either sits on it or lies next to it, fully satisfied his investigation is complete. In this case it was a couple packets of biscuits, not his own biscuits I might add. He might be sitting all smug, but the biscuits have suffered a CAT-astrophe. Broken biscuit anyone??

A New Visitor by Vicki Avcin

Last weekend we were sitting outside about 7pm when we heard something in the trees out in the front garden. As it was dark we couldnt see just what it was, but then we heard something eating from the bird feeder. As all the birds disappear just before sunset we figured it wasnt a bird so hubby went and got the torch. We could see something in the feeder but couldnt really see exactly what it was. We snuck closer before turning the torch on again and a little head popped up…… a little possum!! Hes been back every night since so we are making sure there is seed in the feeder after the birds have gone as well as putting out some fruit and carrot on a stump. All this week weve been thinking its a small possum but tonight just on twilight we saw something fly into a tree in the other side of the garden, then fly over to the trees near the feeder. We havent been able to get a good look at it but now think it is a sugar glider. They are similar to possums although smaller and have a membrane which acts as wings and allows it to glide from tree to tree.Which ever it is, we welcome another little critter to our place to join all the other native wildlife that calls our yard and the surrounding area home.
