Build it and Burn it by Vicki Avcin

In January this year I applied to be an Adult Leader with our local PCYC Emergency Service Cadets and was accepted. The ESC is for young people from 12 to 17 years who think they would like to become part of an emergency service (Police, Ambo, Firefighter, Volunteer Marine Rescue, State Emergency Service etc). It is part of Queensland Fire and Emergency Services. Each week their training revolves around one of the services and learning some aspect of that job. Last week they learnt about fire behaviour and the cadets were asked to build their house on a burn simulator table. This table bends to replicate the terrain with hills and flat areas etc. Each cadet put their house where they wanted it and then were given a variety of items such as stones, vegetation both green and cured, sand, cotton wool (highly flammable plants) which they put around their houses. They were then asked if they thought their houses were safe or not in the event of a bushfire. A lot thought they had safe houses. Then into the class room to learn how fire doubles its speed going up a hill and slows going downhill and the reasons why. After that we had a few less safe houses! Then back outside to light it up. They saw how those who had a good clear area around their houses with stones/sand and no vegetation lasted a lot longer, as did those that were on a downslope (when the fire was lit above them) but those that had built on a hill (with the fire burning up the hill) and those that had a lot of vegetation around them burnt fairly quickly. They also wore the protective clothing firefighters wear and found out that the clothing is heavy and hot. Mind you this was done in the evening when it was a bit cooler and they said they couldnt imagine what it would be like on a hot day at a bushfire! But the cadets enjoyed the night and are keen to do some more exercises fire related. I had them doing hose drills a couple of weeks ago and another week they learnt about being on the water with VMR. Thoroughly enjoying my new role within QFES.

This weeks promoted items are great value. A set of gorgeous notelets with diamond hearts and pretty florals in a variety of colours and a bumper kit of 12 elegant ladies in an art deco theme toppers. Just print and add to your card base

Hello! A Jolly Good read by Janice McFarlane

My daughter took our two grandsons for a haircut. Alfie didnt want too much cutting as he wanted his hair a little longer than he normally has it so it can be gel it up at the front. Bearing in mind Alfie is only 7 that was quite amusing. Harry on the other hand was waiting to have his very first little trim. He has beautiful curls but they did need a little trim. Whilst patiently waiting his turn he decided that he would pick up a magazine, which just happened to be Hello, his mum snapped the picture as he looks as though he is actually reading it. I couldnt stop laughing when she sent me the picture, just priceless.

Easter themed Quick Cards Kit and a set of 10 Lace Designer resources (there are other lace paper kits in other colours too). Thank you for looking.

Happy Mothers Day to My Little Mum!

by Sue Way

Last weekend we visited my mum to celebrate her Birthday and Mothers Day a little early. My sister, brother and sister-in-law also popped in to see her. My family all live near each other, but I am about an hour away, so we dont meet up often enough. Its so lovely when we do that we really should make more of an effort. Mum loved the little plant in a pretty pot that I bought her, but was more excited about the chocolates! She wont open her Birthday present until the day. This is my little mum with me (whos not much taller) and my sister. Here are a few of my designs that could be used for Mothers Day. http://www.craftsuprint.com/sue-way/?r=968387

HIS BREXIT WIFE by Wanda Lipski

My husband always going to bed long before me, I came to bed one night this week to find this message at the bottom of my bed. I had to laugh. My husband, being French does NOT master the language of Shakespeare but for once did pretty well. He gives me Brexit about 10 times a day, any time he sees anything about the subject on the web ... Living here since 1984 Im not afraid that they well try to throw me out, but who knows ... (imagine Gallic shrug here) ... Meanwhile Ive been adding more designs to my Twist&Pop series, so ENJOY and have a good (Brexit final vote?) week.
