Aussie holiday by Joan King

My son and his family were fortunate enough to get away for a holiday on the Queensland coast. I only wish I could have gone along with them. The weather was perfect except for one night of rain. Every day was full on but with 3 children that is what one expects as you have to entertain them. The top left photo is of the 3 grandchildren at the airport off for their flight. Another is a nice family portrait. The third one is of the 3 children at the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and finally one at Dreamworld and that was only part of the holiday...... I would have been exhausted. Showing my age I suppose!!!

Hope you like two of my latest designs. I always have some on special so hop on over if you want to take a look.

Dark Side of the Moon by Janice McFarlane

When I look up at the sky on a clear night and see the millions of stars and a moon shining bright, I am in awe. My daughter who by her own confession isnt very creative, was given a camera a couple of years ago, and she has taken some beautiful photos. This one was taken from her home in Oxfordshire, this last week, with just the zoom facility on her camera. She then cropped it to produce a stunning photograph. I was amazed at the beauty, and how you could clearly see the surface. In the complete blackness this moon shone brightly to produce a wonderful work of art. Her creativity may not be the same as mine, but her eye for a photographic opportunity, makes her just as creative.

Two of my latest kits, which are both on special introductory offer. Thank you for looking.

Fly on by!! by Tina Fitch

Yeah this is the stance I love when the F15 over fly the runway at RAF Lakeneheath.. I can so feel my retirement home calling me to here.. Wont be long now before we take up residence near by ...( won;t be much designing done when that happens)This one is to Celebrate the US Air forces 71st Birthday which was this week... We spent the day once again at the fence watching them launch then come back to land.. I think most launches started very early this wee, with the first one being launched at 5AM time.. Not sure why as they dont give you any info which is good as then no-one knows the comings and goings of them.. Safes all the security issuesAnyway thats all from me this week.. The nights are now drawing in so we all know whats coming dont we? Yeah Christmas!!!!!

Saviours in the Sky by Vicki Avcin

This week I have been at a monster fire at a little place called Woolooga. The fire broke out on Wednesday and grew rapidly with around 700 hectares burnt. On most shifts there is excess of 50 trucks and roughly min of 160 firefighters covering the vast area that this fire is ravaging. I was part of a strike team yesterday and it had grown to over 1600 hectares, this morning approx 4500 hectares.but the total area burnt hasnt been fully calculated yet. The country is so dry and mainly grazing properties so any land burnt means no feed for cattle (loss of income to property owners). Many many properties were put under threat as well as cattle, horses, pigs, goats plus sheds, many of which were full of hay for the animals. Fortunately we had our Saviours in the Sky in the form of air observers and 2 water bombing helicopters. These awesome guys respond to our call for help within minutes and can dump water on the head of the fire to slow the rate of forward spread just enough to get ground crews in to tackle the fire. Not every property can expect a fire truck to turn up so air observations can tell them if a house is under threat and the water bombers can get their quicker than we can. They can greatly assist the guys on the ground if the fire is moving quicker than the firefighters can attack it too and it saves putting firefighters in more danger than they already face fighting the fire. So to hear the thud thud thud coming from above is music to our ears as a firefighter. They sound an alarm, that can be heard on the ground, to warn us before they dump the load. Getting hit by the dump will be like getting hit by a bus! Their accuracy for their target is extraordinary and yesterday we even watched them dump their load in front of a herd of cattle to turn them around and stop them from heading into the fire. As I write this no lives or houses have been lost but several sheds have been lost with reports that one property had stock loss and injuries, very sad. Without these air support planes/helicopters that would all be a very different story. I wish I could add a video of these guys at work but I cant so will have to make do with the pictures.

Never Smile at a Crocodile! by Helen Howell

I have just returned from spending a week in the Tropical North of Queensland, Australia. The weather was superb with hot sunny days and warm nights, so warm you could go out to eat without the need for a cardigan etc. One of my highlights was a river cruise down the Daintree River - home to crocodiles - you could say a crocodile infested river. Our guide told us that even if you cannot see them they are still there. He told us how you need to stay away from the banks (which he referred to as the tourist zone - because some people never learn). The Crocs can pick up the vibration of your footsteps and they move at a phenomenal speed to ambush you - although I dont think anyone has been taken in recent years. We were able to see three crocodiles, two resting on the banks and a third, which our guide said was called Scooter, a 16 year old 3 and half meter Crock, that came out and swam towards the boat. I wonder did he think lunch was being served? He checked us out and then disappeared beneath the muddy water. It was a real experience to see them in the wild in there own habitat but I am glad we dont get them down south in Victoria. Just remember - Never smile at a Crocodile! ^_^

Christmas Comes Early by Valerie Dawes

Ive written before here in the news about the amazing steam engines at the Thursford Collection in Norfolk, but recently I was able to go back again and take part in their Behind The Scenes Tour. I had NO idea how amazing it would be nor any understanding that all of this was there.Christmas is quite a big thing at Thursford and every November/December they stage a professional Christmas show over several weeks. What I didnt know was that they also have a mammoth area where children can go to meet Santa in his cottage. In the picture Ive attached you can see one of the pathways en route to Santa but these paths go on and on and on.... we were told that it takes an hour to walk around with all of the trees and fairy lights lit and all of the characters in motion. Sadly it was unlit and still for the tour, but even like that, it was just magical and we all came out longing for it to be Christmas!Adults without children are not admitted during the Christmas period, a sad reflection of our times, and my grandson would think he is far too sophisticated at 13 for such tomfoolery. But how I would love to see it! Anyone got a child I can borrow??!

Reykjavik, Icelandic National Museum by Judith Henry

One of my best selling cards is based on an Astronomical clock. While in Iceland we visited the Icelandic National Museum. This is a clock but no one knows exactly how it worked. It would have been fun to play around with different dates on a new card for retirement. There were many other beautiful items such as the costumes the Vikings wore.

Holiday! by Sue Way

Last week we went away in our little touring caravan for a few days in Kessingland, Suffolk. Its one of our favourite sites and its the first time that we have taken Billy there. He was too young to go out for most of the season, so we have only managed to get away a few time this year and this will probably be our last one for this season. We had lovely weather and really relaxed, Billy loved having the beach right outside the door and we had some lovely walks. We even took him to a pub. I think Billy is going to love caravanning as much as we do. I am getting back into designing now after a busy summer and Christmas designs are in full swing! http://www.craftsuprint.com/sue-way/?r=968387
