LES CLASSARDS - Another French tradition

by Wanda Lipski

Back in the days of compulsory national service, the young men left for the army in their twentieth year, with a great send off by the local community. Although national service is now a thing of the past, the tradition of the great send off is still perpetuated in many areas of rural France, but now brings together not the young men, but all those who are celebrating a decade during the year. After more than 30 years in France, this was the first time I was able to participate. The day began with photos (of the 10 year olds, 20, 30 etc, ) with each year being assigned a different colour, scarves for the men and boas for the ladies. There was then parade accompanied by local brass bands through the village and the streets are lined with people. Everyone turns out to applaud their friends and acquaintances and cheer those in the classes of 80 and 90 years old, the latter being driven around in beautifully decorated vintage cars. There is then a mega drinks party for the whole village and then a meal with dancing that lasts well into the night. The most notable thing about the event - its totally intergenerational nature, with young people getting up close and personal to our most aged citizens ... The 60s are in blue and the colour behind us in the photo the 70 year olds. Lets hope Ill be around in 10 years time to repeat the experience.

Back In The Good Old Days by June Harrop

Sorting through my photos i had to smile at this one. How many of you had one of these. I spent a lot of time at my Grandmas house when i was growing up and i used to love wash days ( bit different now i have a family of my own ). I used to love helping my grandma put the washing through the mangle. As a child the simple things in life were facinating and i used to love watching all the water pour into the bucket not really sure where it was all coming from. Its not until you think about it that you realise just how much easier it is today to do the washing. Something that would take my Grandma all day now just takes a few hours thank goodness.

These are just 2 of my latest deigns. To see more new designs as they arrive just click the follow designer link on my home page. Thank you for looking xx

Night Sky by Anne Lever

I love flowers, and this time of year I am relishing all the new and vibrant blooms coming out in all the gardens. I visited my local country market today. The plant stall had many beautiful and unusual plants. This one caught my eye. It is a petunia with a pattern I have never seen before. I believe it is a fairly new variety. It is called night sky, and you can see why! I had to have it, and hopefully it will flourish in my garden.

Baby Chicks by Kelly Barker

A couple of weeks ago my youngest daughters class at school were lucky enough to have chicks in their classroom. Their topic this half term is down on the farm and they got to see the chicks hatch from their eggs and grow before their eyes. I think the parents and teachers were as excited as the children, I couldnt believe how quickly they grew! The chicks have outgrown their incubator now and have gone to live with the school cook!! We have been assured they are going to live in her chicken run once they are big enough and she is not going to cook them! Please check out my special offers, I have 12 designs with 25% off, including mini kits and backing paper kits. Thank you for looking.

Whos the tallest? by Sue Way

Last Saturday hubby & I went for a meal with our friends. We went to a lovely old pub & ate a delicious meal, including a scrumptious caramel shortbread stack for dessert! We were comparing height & didnt believe that the boys were both 6 foot & the girls were both 5 2. So there was only one way to find out. We took the reserved sign off the table & stood back to back with the sign on our heads. I think hubs & I won by a whisper, or maybe the floor was wonky lol Everyone around us must have wondered what was going on but it made us laugh. This week I have added a few more little ladies. I hope you love them as much as I do as I will be uploading lots more very soon. http://www.craftsuprint.com/sue-way/?r=968387

Congratulations!! by Tina Fitch

Since my Y=youngest daughter Amber was young she always wanted to fly! She did all the courses at college for her to go into Travel and Tourism when she left school.. But unfortunately on applying for jobs she was knocked back due to being 1/4 of an inch too small in height.. So in the end she went to work at Stansted as a sales assistant in Duty Free and stayed there for a year to gain some experience .She then applied to Thomsons for a travel agents position and was accepted and has worked there ever since... Last September she had one last go and applied for an air hostesss position with a well known airline... She heard nothing so was again really upset..On March the 9th this year they contacted her for her to go along for an interview, so off she went and did all they asked of her, on spending nearly all day at the venue they told her she would be contacted within 2 to 3 weeks if she had been successful... Well to her surprise 2 days later they contacted her again offering her a position within the company..OH my goodness we all were so happy for her.. Nothing said about the height it was all about the reach and she did that with no problems at all..Amber now starts her training with Virgin Atlantic on June 26th 2017.. To say we are proud is an understatement... so within 6 weeks of her training she will gain her wings to fly... I have to say that they will be very privileged to have Amber work for them she is such a fun girl and always so full of life... So your next update will be her passing out ceremony in full Virgin Atlantic Uniform which I cant wait to post for you all to see.. The photo this week from me is Amber standing watching the Virgin Atlantic Jumbo plane we flew out on to America last year...
