They grill or bake, or cook, or they bought a new home, or you want a housewarming gift to give them -

Here are two sizes of HOUSE SHAPED kitchen pot holder / oven mitt sewing patterns, with a pocket for your hand to slide inside, for that cook in your life.

You pick the fabric, this pattern will work for any repeat pattern, any cotton professional sports team, your logo fabric, florals, stripes, any repeat, intricate to simple.

Now this pattern is good for ANY repeated design fabric that you buy from the fabric, quilt, or craft store, because the patterns printed out can be transferred directly to a sheet protector or clear vinyl.

You then take that clear house shaped pattern and pocket pattern to the store, and lay it over the fabric bolt that you unraveled, to determine the placement of the pattern's design layout, thus determining exactly how much fabric that you need. You may need a small amount, 1/4 of a yard, up to 1/2 a yard, depending on how small or large the design on the fabric is, and it's repeat layout. The clear patterns can have the center lines drawn on them, to help you center your pattern, just use the Sharpie marker, and a ruler.

My dad is a real estate agent, and wanted me to design a house shaped potholder to give to his customers for the holidays, for Christmas gifts.

2 sizes are offered, 4 patterns for 9 1/2" x 11" size, with top half on one, bottom half on one sheet, pocket on a sheet, and Insul Bright on another, and 2 patterns for the smaller size potholder- 8x10", one sheet for the house size panel used for the design fabric (you can use the lower half for the pocket panel) and ironing board house shape panels, and one sheet for the Insul Bright pattern.

You have 3 options to hang the potholder:

-ironing board fabric strip 2" x 6", turned into a loop, with a removable key chain ring pulled through the loop end

-button hole placed horizontally or vertically, 1" on center, above or below an element / motif design in the fabric pattern, near the top of the point of the "roof" of the potholder - use the zig zag stitch function on your machine, with a 0 or 1 length and 3 width, and go around the slit 3-4 times

- make a loop to hang from inside at the top of the "roof" of the potholder, 2" x 6" strip of fabric used

fabric used:

repeat pattern design fabric from the store, for the house shaped base fabric and pocket panel

Use 2 layers EACH of:

Insul Bright

white fabric on the inside

ironing board fabric on the outside / back, also for hanging loop (optional) - ironing board fabric is aluminized coated cotton, called Therma Flec by JamesThompsonFabrics.com, also called silvercloth. Sold in JoAnn, and various places online, and in fabric stores.

Insul Bright can be bought by the yard near the cutting counter or packaged. It has silver reflective properties for potholders and oven mitts, is heat reflective, made by The Warm Company, sold at saudersfabric.com outside Lancaster, PA for $4 per yard (cheapest in US), and it is made for hot or cold use.

So, if you have someone who wants their favorite fabric, someone who needs a "house" warming, a Christmas or holiday gift, this is your sewing pattern DIY craft to make! You can give it to a realtor, mortgage broker, agent ,estate agent, first time home buyer, new homeowner, someone who bakes, cooks, grills, a pastry chef, chef, bakery owner, restaurant owner, or anyone!
